Yes, for me it is. May not be for you.

Depends on how much the part exchange value against likely private sale, if the car has issues that may hinder your private sale, if you dont mind dealing with num-nuts, if you cannot be bothered to clean and advertise your car, if you rather drive your old car into the dealers and come away from another one - no fuss, no muss.

As Foxy-Stoat points out, depends on the age, condition and type of car, over the years the last 4 cars I have sold privately have gone to the 1st viewer. The last car I went 3 weeks without a vehicle, but I live in a city with good public transport when required.

    Thanks -

Foxy did you have another car lined up before you sold or were you unreliant on the money from the sale of the old car?

Generally my cars around £2500, run them for 2/3/4 years or until they are worth around £500 then buy another one with the £100-£150 a month I save and advertise the current car at a low price until sold or until the maximum insurance I can get runs out then scrap it or give it away, last one went to my Brother, he still has it !

If I was selling a high value car and buying another high value one then I would sell it for the best price I could, so it would take a little longer to sell and I can find the car I was looking for, hire a cheapy for a week for the cross over period. Insurance is a little touchy as you need to cancel the insurance on the existing car the day you sell so you need to be a bit creative about the gap.

If I was loaded, just part exchange it at the garage your buying the new one from and take the hit, less fuss that way.

    Choice is yours!

I think it was just intended as an illustration from real life of the potential difference between the two methods of disposal.

Gotcha....wonder if the OP has a 2007 Shogun, if not then Kaya's post is a little misleading - OP may have a Yaris for all we know.
