i think its time to end the TV licence altogether. i hardly watch any BBC programs. probably one or two at the most. Top gear and doctor who! and they are seasonal so i can go months without actually watching anything at all.
The BBC dont make any good stuff anymore. they've been proven to not live on this planet!0 -

I'm not aware of any TV channel that advertises itself rather than anything else, no.
And to the audience, what's the difference between, say, an advert for Panorama and an advert for a bank?As that's utterly absurd,
I can only assume that your strident denials that the BBC does far too much advertising of itself can only be a result of you actually working for them.Equally absurd are your assertions that entertainment programmes that mention other programmes count as advertising.
So, what *is* the difference between BBC news running an advert for Eastenders and ITV running an advert for toothpaste? Apart from the former being in the middle of a programme, and the latter generating revenue for the station that is.I never listen to Radio 4 so I have no idea what relevance podcast lengths have to anything. Do the presenters never talk between segments or provide news/weather etc?
You mentioned programme lengths vs the length of slots they fit in. I was pointing out the shortfall on that station available , and actually used, for advertising other BBC programmes.I'm struggling to see how an advert for a BBC programme could ever be described as "insidious" - even by the most ridiculously comical anti-BBC cartoon.
Seriously - the BBC advertises. Mainly itself. It should put away the fig-leaf that it doesn't, take money for advertising things that aren't itself and get rid of the licence fee altogether.
And get rid of things like BBC News Channel (12 minutes of news, repeated 4 times an hour, when it's not showing the likes of Click) and the Welsh and Celtic channels. They cannot, seriously, be value for money.Conjugating the verb 'to be":

The OH isn't going to be happy about this.
It's not that we can't afford the TV licence it's because I don't believe it's value for money so we do not watch TV as it is broadcast waiting until the programme has been shown before watching it on catch-up services.
She watches Eastenders and Holby City and if a TV licence is required to watch those programmes she will not be very happy at all.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

IF they make BBC I Player for license payers only via an account linked to a license number, with a log in ,then they will have to allow multiple log ins on the same account to allow for family homes with multiple users and those who watch I Player on the go.
What is to stop me,as a license payer, sharing my log in with my friend/relation/next door neighbour?? Can't see it increasing the BBC license uptake by much if at all.0 -

Depends on if you have the device (laptop/phone) plugged into the mains or not while you're doing it:However, if you plug one of these devices into the mains and use it to watch live TV away from home, you need to be covered by a separate TV Licence at that addressConjugating the verb 'to be":

Very often when watching ITV there are advert breaks with no commercials, just trailers. More trailers than in the gaps between BBC programmes.
How anyone can get so annoyed with trailers for other programmes I don't understand.
and on Radio 4 there is news at the top of the hour, which is why programmes are 27 minutes or less.0 -

...but we are talking about ALL use of I Player not just live TV but catch up - for example, there are people who log on to networks outside of the home to watch the previous night's soap/drama whilst having lunch/commuting to work.0 -

Yup. And if this comes in, you'll (probably, since they won't otherwise address it) need a separate licence to use iPlayer on any plugged in device that isn't in a place that already has a licence.
Including your desktop PC while you're having lunch, or iPhone if you're recharging it at the same time.Conjugating the verb 'to be":

Always thought it was the BBC who decided you didnt need a Licence for catch up, if that is not so they should never have made so much stuff "Free" ie website, etc.
Now the horse has bolted, how you gonna prove someone has watched I.Player, they cant prove 100% with a telly now.!0 -

...thats why we are talking about log ins based on a paid license number:)..and how it would be administered - my argument is that such a log in system would have to have so much flexibility to be usable that it would be very easy to "cheat".As to whether the device is connected to the mains or not ??? That is totally unenforceable.:rotfl:
I'm firmly of the persuasion that the Beeb should be massively downsized and funded from either general or local taxation.Public Service broadcasting should not be supporting millionaire lifestyles!!0
