Need some ideas for meals with steak please!

Options
Hi all,

Hope you don't mind me posting in this thread!

I could really do with some ideas for cheap meals which include steak. For a number of reasons (donated to me, cheap deals etc.) I have a TONNE of different cuts steak in my freezer and would love some cheap meal ideas! I don't think I can deal with just eating steak and veg for the foreseeable future so if anyone does anything creative with steak I would love to hear about it. I am coeliac so can't eat gluten but will eat literally anything else - apart from what I medically cannot eat, I am the least fussy eater ever.

I am moving flat in a couple of weeks so am aiming to save a bit of money by eating through my meat filled freezer and just shopping at Aldi for veg each week, so any ideas would be very gratefully appreciated!

Thank you :)

slice the steak into strips, marinade for a while with some chilli/ginger/garlic/soy then use in a stir fry with onions, peppers, mushrooms, whatever veg you have. Serve with quinoa (if you can have that) or cauli rice, or just add shredded while cabbage as a noodle substute and do as a 1 pot meal.

I find Pinterest fantastic for new recipe ideas - you can just search for 'steak recipe' and you'll find all sorts of ideas to try

If you've the patience to take a meat mallet & hammer them thin, you can reduce a thickish steak to something you can cook quickly & serve in a wrap.

Me, I'd be laying about me with a sharp knife & making really delicious stews. Using all this leftover wine I read of as a marinade overnight should any of the steak look a bit chewy.
Or feeding the steak through a Spong & going massively Mexican...

This marinated steak salad is easy, healthy and gluten free! Providing you have it rare it is ok to use a thick rump though sirloin is nicer

If we are lucky enough to get fillet I usually do, I tend to substitute red wine for the madeira

    braised steak and onions.
cut up your steak into strips or cubes and brown quickly in a little oil or butter. add thinly sliced onion and allow it to soften but not brown too much.
take out the steak and onion and transfer to casserole dish or slow cooker. put a tablespoon of flour in the frying pan and cook for one minute over a low heat. add about half a pint of beef stock (or water and a couple of stock cubes), bring to the boil and simmer for a few minutes until thickened. then add salt and pepper and a few dashes of Worcester sauce. you can add a bit of tomato puree if liked.
add the gravy to the steak and onions and cook in a low oven for about 3hrs until the steak almost falls apart. serve with mash or chips.

Mince it up and make burgers. Bolognese, shepherds pie,
Put in a loaf tin, top with sliced onions and sliced potatoes, drizzle over a little butter and stock and bake slowly. First hour with some foil then the last without.
Cut into strips and make chunky chilli.
  • Thank you so so much for all these wonderful ideas... I never would have even thought of most of these! I was going down the meat, potato and two veg route!

Love the idea of going Italian and making stews, stroganoff and casseroles! The one pot meal with quinoa (love quinoa and I have loads of it) sounds delish as well. I have written all your ideas into my recipe book and will be batch cooking so much steak this weekend.

I know, it is a brilliant position to be in with lots in the freezer, I just had no idea what to do with it all! Hopefully it will be a cheap few weeks for my food bill. Trying to bring it down from £300 a month:eek: for just one small singleton!! Outrageous, but I am trying my best!

Thanks again, you are all wonderful :T
