legal & claims assistance cover

Does anyone think that this type of optional 'add on' to car or motorbike insurance is worth getting? I would be interested in people's experiences - anybody used it to their advantage, or suffered because they didn't have it? I usually get it, while suspecting that this merely a way for the insurance company to boost its profits. However, this time my motorbike insurer wants an extra £25 for what it describes as 'personal accident/claims assistance', rather than the usual £10-15, and I think that's too much to pay. Is this sort of assistance just a waste of money? Isn't your insurance company obliged to assist with claims anyway, whether you take it out or not? Any feedback/thoughts appreciated.
Thanks

well its useful if u have an accident and just want to claim repairs or an excess back though its not too difficult to do imo
if you are injured however its best to instruct your own solicitor on no win no fee basis0 -
Hi smallspender,
These policies are to cover your "uninsured" losses, so by definition they are things you are not insured for.
The insurance company in a crash would recover the damage to your vehicle.
The legal policy covers assitance to recover your excess (if applicable) and Personal injuries. I'm sure there are other things too that your main insurance policy doesn 't cover.
You can either decide to DIY (which may be expensive and a lot of hassle).
Personally for peace of mind I pay for the policy (although I have ONE policy for both bike and car) but I guess it depends on how strectched you are.
If £25 is not much to you then personally I'd get it, just for peace of mind. If you are skint then clearly you need to think more carefully about it.
The company www.ebikeinsurance.co.uk used to include free legal cover for ALL vehicles (you would need to check if this is still the case).0 -
Thanks for the replies. I do already have this protection on my car insurance, but I'm assuming this won't cover me for incidents in connection with my bike. Will check out ebike insurance...0

Normally these policies would cover the insured vehicle (which could be another car).0
