My agency is forcing me to buy a tenant insurance for an unfurnished place.

I dont see any value in it, so I am looking for a very cheap one.

What Insurance exactly ?
What would it cover ?
Under Contents Insurance there is a tenants liability cover, so if this is what they mean, take out a Contents Insurance adequate to cover your possessions, if you want this cover. If you visit different Insurers internet sites you can view policy wordings and see what this cover is.
By the way the OFT ruled that it was unfair for landlords to insert such a clause into tenancy agreements. They said it is unfair to make it a condition for tenants to have such Insurance because it was a persons choice whether to take out Insurance,
4.8 Unnecessary insurance requirements - we consider that whether
tenants wish to insure their own personal belongings is a matter for
them and that it is unreasonable for the landlord to make this a
contractual requirement. "The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. Can you recommend any cheap content insurance providers?
thanks0 -
It does not work like that. One company could be competitive in one postcode area and very expensive in another.
If you only have a small amount of cover needed you could contact Endsleigh Insurance. Use a comparison site or contact a local Insurance Brokers. The comments I post are personal opinion. Hi I have worked in insurance sector for a number of years but have just left due to childcare. By law you need a buildings policy if you have a mortgage against this and you are on the title deeds, you can set up with many top insurance providers that specialise in landlords cover by just calling them and stating you need landlord cover. Is the building likely to be left empty more than 30 or more days if so you must let insurer know for risk purposes. You will need boiler cover if gas in property and a landlords CP10 certificate for health and safety by law, when you get a tenant many gas suppliers/top insurers will do the boiler emergency cover on a separate plan but you must ensure you have CP10 also it may be wise to include emergency plumbing and drainage cover in that. As for contents your tenants can source own contents insurance when they are in the property. Hope this helps0
