I am extremely Obese HELP ME !

Hi I am currently on JSA have been for 2 years and had interviews for jobs ect however. I am extremely Obese my BMI is 45.6. Since Janauary I have lost 2 stone by my self changing my diet however I use to volunteer in a charity shop once a week for 4 hours and this use to wreck my fear and following days be unable to work due to pain and feet full of blisters. I wouldn't be able to do a job full time or even 16 hours a week on my feet such as retail and even when sitting down on a chair after 1/30- 2 hours I get Severe back pain. I am scared that if job center or work programe ever got me an interview for a job and I got the job after a few days I couldn't be able to phiscally continue with the work and would be sacked. This means not getting any money from Job center for a number of months. Is there any options for me and should I mention this to my work advisor how I feel ect. I have said before I wouldnt be able to work long hours and she told me i could. When I know and have tried and failed to work more than 1-2 hours on my feet ect
Thanks for your time Was 26 stone Now 24 stone

Have you discussed it with your doctor? What's their opinion on your ability to work?0

Can't help or advise on JSA but just wanted to say well done on the weight loss
Keep at it and your circumstances will improve I'm sure. 0 -
Presumably the weight is the only reason that you cant remain on foot for too long. How about when alternating sitting and standing?
You already know that less weight will help and only you can really change that about yourself.
Keep up the good work with your changes and things will improve elsewhere too.0 -
Well done for the weight loss, the weight is obviously the crux of your problem and the first thing that needs tackling. If the pain is so severe that it impedes your chances of working maybe ESA is the short term answer... Speak to your doctor and see if they agree that you are not fit for work and will issue you a Fit note? Some doctors can also issue vouchers for slimming clubs which will certainly help you0

I agree with the others - well done. But I am a bit concerned about this statement. It suggests that you are not trying to get interviews yourself - and that in itself could get you sanctioned. I would second the idea that you speak to your doctor. Even if they can't provide a fit note, there may be help available. A fair number of treatments to support weight loss are only prescribed if you can prove you have made the effort yourself, and you can now show that you have.0 -
a friend who was over 35st worked no problem she alternated between sitting and standing I dont believe you cant work at all just because your overweight does not mean you should rely on benefits0

I'm obese, but i work in retail and spend the day on my feet, if anything its actually helped with losing weight, much better than being sat down doing an office job. I get aches and pains but to me thats just part of the job and something that should lessen when i lose more weight. But i guess it can affect everyone differently.brewthebear wrote: »a friend who was over 35st worked no problem she alternated between sitting and standing I dont believe you cant work at all just because your overweight does not mean you should rely on benefits
OP as your BMI is quite high, you may qualify for weight loss surgery (though this varies between local health authorities), in the mean time if you go to your GP you can discuss the priblems you're having, and they might be able to offer you subsided exercise (i had 3 months of gym membership)or vouchers for weight watchers/slimming world. Its great you've lost weight on your own so far, but it wouldn;t hurt to ask for more help from your GP.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Your friend is lucky but People are different, conditions effect people differently being overweight can cause severe back problems in some people which can lead to them struggling to walk, stand and sit.....
The op doesn't imply he/she wants to rely on benefits and the fact they have been volunteering implys otherwise.0 -

You didn't mean to call obesity a condition did you? Maybe the NHS would be able to treat those with genuine illness if we didn't medicalise lifestyle choices.
(Before anyone jumps - I used to be fat. I've heard and used every excuse in the book.)0 -

I was talking about the bad back, the op is fairly vague on the details but the back pains maybe a problem with the back which is not related to weight.
I'm overweight now since my stroke last year, like the op I have lost 2.5 stone but still got a way to go, should I be denied NHS care because of my weight?
It's not a lifestyle choice it's related to my conditions and medication...0
