O/S Daily Wednesday 2 March 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them x

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now using up some leave, so he’s having a lie-in. DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly so he can get ready for school.

Now light, wet underfoot but not raining, feels colder than yesterday.

Dinner last night was a takeaway of chicken and chips – as DS2 had his college interview and we picked the food up on the way back. He’s been offered a place on the course he wanted, so all good, he has to go onto the pc student portal and accept the offer officially, we’ll do that later when he gets home from school. Dinner tonight is going to be hunters chicken, mash and veg.

Work yesterday was much busier than expected and we just kept going – hoping today will be easier. I’m only working until lunchtime, then on days’ off until Monday – so will enjoy those days this week, I’ll still have loads to do, and I’m working next week finish on Wednesday then the following week I’m on off on annual leave, so will have an some nice time off. I go back and then Easter is not so far away, and hopefully some better weather.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning all

Wet & cold here this morning, brrr.

I finished the last of my crochet squares last night, tonight I shall start edging them in black, I'm going for the stained glass window effect.

I made some lovely leek and potato soup last night so that will do for packups today.

Right, it's time I fed the fish and set off to DD2's to help with the morning rush.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Hugs Hester

    Morning Everyone

We have a weather warning today for snow and ice - I think I'll get to work early to avoid any problems. Just raining at the moment. No washing, DW not full enough for a load so a quiet morning.

Doctors are testing for coeliac and H-Pylori, my arm really aches where she took blood (I'm such a wus!).

nmlc - Well done to DS.

Lainey - I think you have made up your mind but have you spoken to anyone at work about the problems? I hope you find something more suitable soon.

Dentist later about this loose crown - there's always something. Take care. XX

Morning all. Well done to your DS NMIC. Fortunately we seem to have escaped the snow which was forecast for us. Just a light covering but the bloomin' wind is still with us. I am so fed up of winter.

I don't know what was the matter with me yesterday. I just felt really down all day and couldn't shake it off. Probably an accumulation of things just got on top of me.

We need to collect our sausage order from DB this morning. It was due last week but delayed through illness. We still have a few of last month's supply left so it was no problem. We pass Poundstretcher on the way so will call in there and see if there are any "too good to miss" bargains to be had. Now it's moved from the town centre I don't get in as much.

It's our girlie (old biddy) night tonight. Carvery, vino and a good old catch up. These first Weds of the month do roll round quickly. Mind, this has been a short month. Will do Mr TA a liver and bacon casserole with mashed pots as compensation for deserting him! It's a labour of love as the look and feel of raw liver really turns my stomach but he does enjoy it.

CAMELOT what a nasty thing to happen to DD. Nothing is safe is it. So brazen too, cutting through the chain in full view of passers by. ETA Hope your health worry is soon resolved.

Have a good day all (((HUGS))) where wanted/needed. LAINEY good luck with finding a more suitable job. Take care all xx

    Good morning everyone.

Loads of overnight rain though the forecasted snow has not arrived. It's very rare that snow lies here, the last time was about six years ago. Fingers crossed then!

Camelot - hope you escape it too. Definitely hat and mitts time.

Judi - oh dear. Hope it's not too bad.

Yesterday was a fairly good day. Did a wee bit of shopping, my digital scales needed new batteries so I had to go into town anyway. Didn't buy anything else. :j. I did all my little work related jobs, had a telephone consult with a colleague and then sent my 'supportive and yet developmental' email and got a thank you back. Ended well.

The new council tax bill popped into my email inbox already, council are on the ball! I normally pay it all up front but will wait a couple of weeks yet, must put a reminder in the calendar. We've got a septic tank and no mains water so the bulk is reduced a fair bit.

Today I have to wait in for a delivery, and again tomorrow. The companies both promise a texted one hour delivery slot but that never happens. Parcels are sub contracted to Oban E*press which doesn't operate a timed delivery system, it'd be far too difficult here. I'll just hang about the living room - not too hard to do.

Food will be the plan, I did fine yesterday and really enjoyed what I made. Let's see how the next few days go!

I hope it's not too horrible outside for everyone - happy Wednesday.

    Morning all,

More of a disturbed night with Little madam last night, don't know what was wrong but she took ages to settle down and was up very early this morning !

Off to work today there is only me and a young Saturday lad today so I hope its not too busy.

Dinner tonight is at my mums I don't know what she is cooking but im sure it will be lovely, we introduced Evie to her dog last night and her dog was fine but Evie kept growling and showing her teeth, we corrected her and she soon stopped, so we will see how they get on tonight !

Sistercas hope your last day went well, and good luck with your new job xx

Lainey there is nothing worse than dreading doing to work I hope you are ok xx

    Morning :hello:

sistercas Good luck in your new job! x

LaineyT I'm sorry it's not working out for you x Different situation, but I started a job a while back and after making it very clear what I couldn't do, on my first day I was left on my own just 20 minutes after I started because boss had to go out and see customers. He told me I had to do the very thing I told him I couldn't! I was supposed to be doing admin but didn't get to see any paperwork or use the computer at all. I stuck it out for a few weeks then gave up and told them I was leaving.

Camelot Good luck at the dentist x

Scampi had an off day yesterday, he was fine but just wanted to be left alone. He usually jumps up and trots over to me as soon as I get out of the shower, knowing we'll be going out as soon as I'm dressed. But he just glanced at me and curled back up in his bed, he was like that for most of the day. By 4.30pm he was a bit more sociable so we went out, he ignored a bike close to us but then lost his temper with one in the distance – that's when I knew he was definitely back to normal, lol.

The shelves are in place, my seeds have arrived and as I was home all day and being left alone, I was going to sort the pots and compost. But it rained and was windy and I didn't want to work out in that. The weather doesn't look much better today, I might bring everything in and sort it in the kitchen. It's going to get messy :D

    Morning all,

Day off today :j so have walked the girls, bbrrr cold out there but clear and bright so good for walking.

Had a lovely evening last night, met up with my SIL and two nieces for a meal out. It's a very exciting time for the girls with my eldest niece buying her first home and planning her wedding for August, my youngest niece is 17 next week and is raring to get on with her driving lessons. As always, we didn't stop talking with lots of laughs as well, just what I needed.

Thanks for all kind comments / observations on the job, think it was Camelot who asked about trying to speak to someone. That's certainly something had thought about and may still do but tbh what with my supervisor and her immediate boss being the main protagonists it's difficult. Also the role itself is not what was led to believe and suspect a lot of that is down to the organisation of the company. Anyways, have given myself until April 15th so that would be 2.5 months so will feel that have given it a good go!
Today have a stock shop delivery coming, also have to pop into town to pick up a pescription. Then the vet is coming out to see Bill for a two month review, whilst he's a lot better would like to see him bit better in trot so will see what she says.
Judi hugs m'dear, hope you ok
RR wonder if little Evie is just pushing the boundaries a bit?
    Nmlc yay for your DS

Hope everyone else has a good day, stay safe in you are due for the snow, take care all xx
  • Oh no, I spoke too soon. The snow started with a vengeance 15 minutes ago and already we have a thick covering and no signs of it stopping. I don't think we will be venturing out any time soon and I am worrying about DD who is still out on the school run. She'll never get her car back up our steep hill. Ours is always the first to be closed to traffic. Oh I hate snow and the disruption it causes. Stay safe anyone else who's got it xx

Good morning everyone and a cold and blowy one here in north Kent.DD's day off from work so I have a nice relaxing day off as well and I am staying put indoors and will be pottering around today .I have a bit of ironing to clear up as I got most of the washing dry yesterday and finished it off on the airer.
No shopping to buy but I want to make a chick pea curry to help use up some of my chick pea mountain of tins the cupboards.I also will make a victoria sponge cake for DGS Jack just because he likes it :):):)He doesn't eat a lot of cake of all the grandsons so I don't mind making him something he really enjoys now and again.I will probably make some melting moments biscuits as well as the oven is on and I like to use up the available space if I can.
So a cosy day indoors away from the wind and weather will suit me down to the ground
Hope you all have a good day whatever you are doing
    Cheers chums JackieO xx
