I've also tried the RIO set. All the hard work with the tips and making it look good - me and my sister after 2.5 hours made really good job of it - and then the gel wouldn't dry!!!!! It was extremely dissapointing and I cannot believe they are still selling it - it doesn't work at all. Avoid.
  • I completly agree, Avoid Rio!!
The lamp is no where near string enough to cure the gel. I tried NSI and a few other brands of gel and it still didnt work.
Also the tips the provide are too thin and bend/break easily. Your better off buying a good lamp from ebay and finding a reputable seller online for your gels and extensions

  • hi.
i have the rio uv lamp and i find that frequently my nails will not cure. i think this is because of the watt on the lamp. they have a very low wattage and i am looking for a replacement lamp currently. if you would like my advice - stay away from rio produts as you have to spend more money on them on top of the original cost! hope this helps x

The Rio kit is rubbish - the gel doesn't cure and the bits you get with it are inferior. If you want a real kit pop along to Sallys. You can get lanps quite cheaply from Ebay too.
Hi, could you please tell me where 'Sallys' is that you mention ?

There is a sallys (or salon services) in most towns, just have a look in your yellow pages for beauty supplies.

Can I just remind everyone to be careful if you are going to attempt to do your own enhancements - you are creating the perfect environment for a bacterical infection to grow.

If you are unlucky enough to get an infection in one of your nails, remove the enhancement and buff the natural nail ever-so-slightly (once removes shine, twice removes nail plate) then discard the file or you will spread the infection. You can then re-apply the enhancement, but you will need to wait for the infection to grow out.
  • brill advice freyasmum! couldnt have said it better myself!
  • Hiya all

I have just purchased the Rio professional kit via littlewoods and I am really impressed.

I have in the past tried the nail kits, like nailene etc and always lost at least 2 nails within 24 hours.

This has been my first attempt at Gel nails and they are excellent, they really look like they have been professionally done, they are lovely and smooth, strong and have already been bashed about, not a mark on them.

I agree that the gel is thick, but it spreads more the more you work it, you need to follow the instructions properly (not saying that youre not)

Also, if people are filing the natural nail and making it thin, they are badly trained or not trained at all, even I know not to do that & knew that b4 I did my nails. All they are meant to do is go over the nail lightly to remove the shine to help with the bonding process, and they should only do it in the direction the nail grows.

Anyones nails that are splitting, cracking, breaking etc, if you have ridges going across the nail... from one side to the other, not from the cuticle to the tip, needs to be tested for thyroid problems, especially if you have dry skin, dry hair and if your hair seems to fall out alot, like when you brush your hair, you always lose some hairs, this is fine, but if you notice the above mentioned, and an increase in your normal hair loss, very dry, split ends and hair that breaks easily, it is very possible that there is a thyroid issue. I am very familiar with this as I myself have a thyroid issue, amongst others.

The last time prior to this that I did false tips from a nail kit, I actually bled under the nail plate, partly no doubt to do with these other issues, with this Rio kit, ive had absolutely no problem on that score, so in my opinion, this method is gentle to the nails when done properly.

The DVD that came with the kit is very good and shows lots of techniques, the gel went off fine for me, after the 3rd coat of gel has been cured for 3 minutes, it still feels like it is sticky, this should be wiped away with finishing wipe. No stickiness, nails are hard and strong.

Because of my health problems, I will never have a nice full set of natural nails as they split, peel, break, chip etc, so easily, to me they are of benefit look at the reviews on the kit on littlewoods website, it's £109 or thereabouts

Everyone seems very happy with them, unless it's a much better kit.

I'm going to try put a pic on, so I hope I get it right...... ahh, url.. no pic coming on then I dont think, i'm not well and really cant be bothered messing about with uploading to a website so I can show you all (right now anyway) but if anyone wants to send an email address so I can Mail the pic, I would be happy to send.

Anyway, i'm very happy with mine, the only downside is going on ebay to see whats available, only to end up spending way too much money than you ever intended!

It helped me by watching and listening carefully to the DVD, pause it after each instruction till you have done that step and are ready for the next

  • I purchased Red Carpet Manicure last year. The initial layout is quite expensive but as I have nail varnish on 24/7, I quickly made the money balance out. The longest time the nails have stayed painted and shiny is 4 weeks and the least time 17 days. Easy to follow and job done and dry in 25 mins. I would highly recommend this.
