Rio UV Gel Nails

Hi can anyone recommend the Rio Gel Nails. I'm hoping to save some money by doing the gel myself rather than going to the salon @ £25 a time

I only have the gel put on my natural nails, rather than the tips or extensions to lengthen so i think it should be easy enough to do.

2 salon visits will pay for the kit if it's any good.

Alternatively can anyone recommend another make of uv lamp and gel to buy separately.

thanks

I've used the Rio UV gel nail kit. Its very time consuming and tricky to get right without practice. Having said that I was using the glue and extension tips, but even so the painting of the gel and drying under the lamp seemed to take forever! There are usually a few rio kits available for sale on Ebay and even just the lamp on its own. The Rio site has items for sale separately. Hope this is some help!

Thanks tsb. I don't mind it taking a while if the results last for 2 or 3 weeks as the salon does. I takes about an hour in the salon, just trying to save some money in the long run.

    Anyone else tried the Rio

  • I have the Bio Sculpture brand and like that. I can only think of ebay for buying the kit but I don't think many of them sell to people that have not been trained because they want to protect their reputation. So you tend to get the bits that are not used by the professionals.
  • I would reccomend ebay for a lamp 36w is the best will cure in 2 mins should be able to pick one up for less than 30.00 read the description as a lot of them come with a small amount of kit to get you started especially the ones from china. don't be put off by the fact that they come from so far away, the nail industry is massive in china and most of the products are manufactured there anyway. Mine came with three pots of gel clear pink and white, a really great brush, gel wipe, uv top coat, tips and glue. i have achieved excellent results with these products and since i qualified at college i've been using these items in the salon and my ladies love the results.

What is this? Is it something that strengthens your own nails and allows them to grow? Am desperate - there is no product on the market that stops my nails breaking either taken as a suplement or painted on! Have excellent diet , keep hands out of water etc etc. Products help for a few weeksthen the nail breaks low down and painfully. I would love a half way house betwen proper false nails andmy natural ones that are no use to me!
  • I bought the Rio Gel Kit and its not great, to be honest if you can get yourself along to Sallys or Salon Service you would be better and cheaper in the long run to buy the proper salon products. I have had my nails done for years. It does take time and is tricky but if you use the real products its much better. I found the rio gel too thick and sticky and couldn't get it to cure

    Hello,
Flicking through the Argos cat today some Rio gel nail home kits caught my eye. My question is - has anyone tried these? if so are they any good and worth the money? Or is there another better make?
    Thanks in advance:j
  • Hi. Does anyone have a Rio UV gel nails kit from a couple of years ago? I do and it's never really worked for me. I can't get the gel to cure, despite trying another (non-Rio) gel. I thought maybe buying a different uv lamp or a replacement bulb for mine? Maybe the one provided with the kit isn't strong enough and therefore doesn't cure properly? If anyone can give me some advice I'd appreciate it. Would like to get it working as cost around £50 and only used it a handful of times.

    Cheers!
  • Ive not used it myself but I heard it was rather rubbish and not worth the effort. But I have used the quick dip acrylic kit and thats not too bad at all although i used a different nail glue as the one it came with is completely useless!

The Rio kit is rubbish - the gel doesn't cure and the bits you get with it are inferior. If you want a real kit pop along to Sallys. You can get lanps quite cheaply from Ebay too.
