BT Phone Box Problems

Sorry if this is the wrong place for this but I can't see a more appropriate place!

Outside our house we have a BT phone box. It's a complete mess, it's been vandalised, its rusting and in a bad state of repair. I have no idea the last time it was used.

Unfortunately it invites a lot of anti social behaviour. It's used as a toilet, frequently, and for taking drugs. We often find those little bags coke and pills are sold in on the floor. There was also a hoax call traced to the phone a couple of months ago, reporting that my next door neighbours house was being burgled by men armed with sawn off shot guns. All 4 of the properties that are next to the box are fed up with it. We want it removed. Has anyone any idea how'd we go about this (the legal way, we've already considered 'removing' it ourselves:rotfl:)

Contact your local councillors and see if they'd support either removing or adopting the box.

If it's just in disrepair you can contact BT faults or dial Fault Repair (151 or 154) from the box.

Maybe get some very visible CCTV cameras up?

we live opposite a primary school so I don't think this will be an option.

i haven't but my neighbours have. They were told that as it was used removal wasn't an option. The wires have been vandalised so it's been out of action for perhaps 9 months so far.

Whos property exactly does it sit on?

Best bet is to get your councillors involved. They can put pressure on BT to install a new high security box that will deter the anti-social behaviour.

If it's close to your property put up a nice bright security light so that it illuminates the area around the box with a motion sensor. You'd be less likely to pee somewhere if everyone can see you doing it

If an unknown person secured the door it would be unusable.

I may have thought he was talking about a cabinet not a phone box ;)

From the BBC News web site recently
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-35570663

extract below - you might need to contact Neil Scoresby at BT but if he is not public facing then I am sure there is a department within BT that might look into it - as long as you are not in a known 'suicide hotspot' that is!

The man who makes the decisions on the future of the phone kiosks is BT's Neil Scoresby, who has the intriguing title "head of payphones and prisons".
]How does he decide that it's time to pull a phone box out of the ground?
"It's normally based on whether there's still a demand for using the payphone. But we also factor in whether there's a mobile signal or whether the payphone is needed for any other social need, for example a suicide hotspot or at an accident blackspot location."
