Used car - extending warranty after expiry

Recently purchased a used car (3 years old and done less than 15000 miles). The salesman said that any used car purchased comes with a 12 months warranty, and once expired it can be renewed.

Is it worth renewing after 12 months? Anyone renew their warranty on used car?

You don't tell us what make or model the car is - which would make a huge difference to the situation.

It depends what the car is worth, how likely there are known parts which tend to fail and whether we are talking about a manufacturer's warranty - which in my opinion ios the only warranty worth having.

I extended the warranty on a BMW, which I bought at 2 years old, - when the original warranty expired at 3 years old.

Cost me around £50 a month, but it meant I could sleep easy with no worries about expensive repairs.

As above depends on the car. Personally I wouldn't bother and just put the money into savings to cover any repairs. Insurance companies aren't selling warranties for your benefit and if they are making a profit that probably means that 90 out of 100 people have no claims.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

If its a premium brand and the warranty is the makers own policy and you intend to maintain main dealer servicing, then it may well be worthwhile.

Check whats possibly going to give you trouble, in the future, by looking in https://www.honestjohn.co.uk car by car reviews.

If it has potential for costly repairs, the warranty and any makers goodwill, could possibly save you lots of expense.
