Glasgow Royal Infirmary Parking

Hey guys,

I'm a student doing a research project, which involves me going to Glasgow Royal Infirmary some days of the week for a few weeks.

Ive racked up £10 already parking in their official car park for a total of 4-5 hours. As an unemployed student, I can't afford the parking, and public transport is tricky from where I live.

I was wondering if anyone can tell me of anywhere within reasonable walking distance that I can park for very cheap or free (non-permit zones).

Would really appreciate it if anyone can give me advice.

Where do you live? There are plenty of park-and-rides dotted about, one of which might help.

I think that there are only 3 hospitals left in Scotland that charge for parking - and when the contracts expire they will not be renewed.

It's a ridiculous system which should never have been allowed in the first place.

I'm not sure when the contracts actually run out, but if you can enter and exit without needing to pass barriers I would simply ignore all charges and not pay.

If they can't identify the driver they're stuffed.

If memory serves there is a £3/4 a day car park behind the hospital off Alexandra Parade heading down to the Necropolis but no idea how busy it gets.
Alternative might be driving along Alexandra Parade and seeing where the parking restrictions end, might be a bit of a walk back to the GRI but a possibility.

My wife currently parks in the Duke Street car park. She has a discount card (which she inserts in the machine after the parking ticket) that allows her to get discounted parking - normally about £20 per day but she only pays £4 per day.

She used to get parking in the main car park at the hospital (for which she was charged about £25 per month) but she lost out during one of the reshuffles in parking allocation.

There aren't restrictions on the roads between Alexandra Parade and Duke St, if you can find a space. Certainly ought to be possible towards the Cumbernauld Rd, and it's only a 15/20 minute walk from there. Alternatively get the train in - it's really quite close to High St/Bellgrove, and not all that far from Queen St. Depends where you're coming from of course!
