Agree with Furts. I had British Gas install external insulation and the Romanian version of John Wayne proceeded to try and ruin my lovely house. Luckily I am rather astute when it comes to construction/building/DIY/insulation so build up a snag list of over 50 items. This was on top of carrying out rectification works myself, on a regular basis, to avoid a terrible job being done!

I signed to say the works were done correctly to the best of my knowledge, but as a 'layperson' my knowledge is limited! ;) So should I need to use the Courts in future that signature will not amount to much! :)

A small Council estate near me had EWI fitted by East European labour. The workmanship was dire, and the attention to detail was left behind in Eastern Europe before the bodgers headed West. Yet it appears the work got signed off and paid for.

If OP elsien decides to go ahead please take on board a little tip. Look closely at the nationality of those present before they start undertaking any work. Then decide if the key requirement of "competence" is present.

A cracking little flyer with the blurb I recently received states:

"How to simply qualify a propertie

Loft insulation if the property has no insulation in the loft it will qualify, to be insulated to building regulation standard which is 300mm, also all pipes, tanks, loft hatches will be insulted free of charge."

I wonder if the quality of the work will match that of their proof reading?

Neighbour just had her house externally insulated, by non-English. Watched them every day, can't fault there attitude to work, and result looks good. Am going to check out a house that was done 10 years ago, probably own financed without a grant. Maybe talk to owners. Have just received a quote for my own house part insulation 49sq metres.
