MSE credit application checker fails... because I'm a student?

Hi all,

I'm looking at the Post Office 0% credit card to move onto after my Tesco 0% just expired. I ran the MSE tool that tells you the likelihood of acceptance, and it comes back as 0% likely to be accepted, but not why... I like the low minimum payment, and long 0% term. Why would this application be rejected? Is it because I'm a student? I'm a PhD student, and I am being paid via a weird method. I can't remember the name of it, but it's £16,000, but tax free... Will me just putting 16,000 in the box be messing it up?

Should I just be picking a different card?

Thanks for any help <3

Like all others, it's a computer program so it can't think and it only knows what you tell it.

Personally, I'm increasingly going straight to the horse's mouth eligibility checkers and finding my results more accurate. i.e eligibilty checkers at Lloyds Bank current accounts and MBNA and Barclaycard credit cards.

Before you move on though you might like to review your credit history. Sign up at Clearscore and/or Noddle.

Thanks for the reply. I did an Experian check today, and my credit score is good. The only negative on there is that I don't have any "closed" credit accounts, which I will have once I bin off my Tesco card. I'm just wondering if I should risk a rejection on this card given that I've had such a poor rating from the eligibility tool.

I bet you your score is worth the same as 2 pack of choc digestives and 1 pack of custard creams.

Your score isn't seen by lenders, its the history lenders can see.

Thanks for the insight, I wasn't aware of the distinction. Do you have any practical advice for my issue? Should I pursue the card or is there a common reason I'm being told there is no chance?
