Hello
Just looking for advice, I saw a car advertised online for £4500, took car out & test drived. When we sat down to sign, we said we were buying cash. Now they are saying the car was advertised at wrong price and is £4999, it was an issue on their system
What do you guys think?

An advert is only an advert you don't have to buy and they don't have to sell .
They may well negotiate if you make a reasonable offer say £4750 .

Just guessing here ... the dealership would probably prefer it if the customer had finance taken out through them (nice little earner methinks). As you're intending to pay cash they'll lose out on their commission.

Could be that's why the price has been upped .... unless you really want this particular car and can't find one elsewhere for a similar price, my inclination would be

Issue on their system - so the person inputting the details keyed in 500 instead of 999? I don't think so ....

Is the car worth £4999 (less whatever you can negotiate)?

A lot of garages do it, it gets you on to the forecourt, it used to be that's the cash price for no part ex, or we sold that one but we do have that similar one in better condition for 500 more.

If they had advertised at 4500 though, that is exactly what I would be looking to pay as a maximum price.

You cannot hold them to the sticker price, which is called in legal terms an "invitation to treat". Otherwise genuine mistakes (such as a decimal point in the wrong place) could lead to catastrophe for a company. The deal is only done when a price has been mutually agreed.

I like the car but I'm only prepared to pay £4,400. However I'll take out the finance to pay for it.

Then you cancel the finance within the 14 day cooling off period and pay off the balance. :)

    Thanks everyone!

I walked away & then they called me later that day to say they would honour the advertised price

Cheeky, I would rather pay a grand more now, to avoid buying from them. They obviously thought they had you on the hook.

If you really like it tell them you will take it at £4k.
