Claires Gift Vouchers

Friends gave my daughter a gift voucher for her birthday from Claires. It was for £5.
She was saving them up to do a shopping spree. When she got to the shop they refused to accept it because it was out of date!
So they take your money and refuse to give goods!

How long had she had the vouchers for?? I have never seen gift vouchers that last less than 6 months minimum. If they had a short date perhaps you can complain on these grounds. I would ring there head office in Birmingham and express my dismay at their customer service to predominently young easily upset customers! The tel number is O121 682 8000 you may even get another voucher in excess of £5.00 for the upset! Worth a tryI have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes

Hi All,
Talking of gift vouchers, found some VERY old WH Smith vouchers in the house last week (3x25p ones!), stuck onto a piece of card like stamps, must be over 20 years old absolute minimum!
Question is, would WH Smith still honour the fact that it states, even on those vouchers as it does on brand new ones that 'There is no time limit to which this voucher must be used'! Don't intend to use then, as they are probably worth more than 75p as they are, but a good policy in principle by WH Smith anyway!
As far as I'm aware, most gift vouchers don't have expiry dates, or if they do they are very long, so it is odd that Claire's didn't accept them. I'd check them carefully, see if there is any message about time length, as per WH Smith ones!
Cheers

Marks and Spencers do not have a time limit. If you found a 50 year old gift voucher they would honour it.Next,I believe have a time limit of a year.
I think it is a disgrace that they refused your daughter's voucher.Goodwill counts for a lot and I for one will never buy their gift vouchers now.Hope you get somewhere by phoning head office.I want money..........that's what I want !!:j0 -

My mum found some like those a few years back - and yes WHSmith did honour them - checkout girl did look at them a bit oddly though first !0 -
What I find unfair with gift vouchers is if a store refuses to give change if you don't use it to the maximum value. John Lewis tends to give change in cash as it saves the hassle of having gift vouchers at every till, but I suppose a happy medium is change in gift vouchers to the nearest pound, then the rest in coins.0

Hey,
Just a note on a couple of issues. Firstly i work in John Lewis, and the policy is to give normal change with vouchers if it is reasonable. ie.if someone pays for a 99p item with a £50 voucher this would not be allowed.
I was speaking to my sister about this thread, who is an assistant manager in claires, she told me taht the policy is that if you send the voucher to Claires Head Office then they will gladly renew the voucher for you free of charge.
Hope this helps,

the other alternative is to chuck it in the bin as its usless..Those we love don't go away,They walk beside us every day,Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear
Our thoughts are ever with you,Though you have passed away. And those who loved you dearly,
Are thinking of you today.0 -

the chances of that are very little but you can always send it recorded and send a letter saying that you want compensation for the stamp etc.

What a pain!
If they were a little more customer friendly, then they would honor the voucher in store and send the voucher off to head office at their own expense."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0
