Hi all
I am considering a change of career and was wondering if training to be an Estate Agent at 41 would be feasible? I am chartered in my profession but opportunities are few and far between and I have found myself in a niche role therefore I am looking into changing to a profession that will offer opportunities for the coming decades :0
Cheers

There is no formal training requirement.0

I've seen adverts for Trainee jobs. As a rule of thumb they pay national minimum wage and you get a cut of the commission on a sale.
So then it's a question of how quickly you "learn" on the job - and how quickly they let you get given your own properties on their books, rather than tailing others and being their dogsbody.0 -
Do you have no morals? Willing to sell your granny if the commission is ok? Able to look others in the eye while telling lies? Degree in BS?
If so, this is the ideal career for you.0 -

What niche are you in?
Can you afford to earn poor money as a new starter in an estate agency office at your age?Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0 -
Thanks for the replies...
Marcarm - glad to get your full support
Dan-Dan I am in land management therefore I do have some transferable skills. Yes the poor money thing is a concern but I need to research this avenue more to ascertain whether a move is feasible.0 -
Are you RICS?
Moving into estate agency would be a major step down. I'd be inclined to try to move sideways - commercial, large scale residential or rural land management.
But then I imagine being an Estate Agent with Strutt & Parker is considerably different than being one with Foxtons! Residential estate agency is all about short-term turnover rather than relationship building and management.0 -
Hi saker
No I'm not RICS. I'm a Landscape Architect.
I wonder if there are any real life Estate Agents around to shine some light on this profession.0 -
It's sales. Same as any sales job. If you can sell you'll do ok at it. You'll only make a lot if you have your own business.0

Would presume long hours, including weekends?
Basic wage less than Tesco's - obviously commission could be healthy!
Seems a job role that always come up, so high staff turnover?0 -
