Anyone have experience of becoming an Estate Agent?

Alas the same seven figure territory EAs in Midsomer village aren't going to want (or need) to take on someone without experience. That's why the experience is better for them. After all, you're dealing with a class of customer who for all purposes are likely to be well informed, and will easily identify any schoolboy BS spewed forth in their direction.
My money is on the advice given by Scorpio; any agency role fulfilled by a n00b aged 41 is likely to be a ghastly endeavour. The same goes for recruitment companies, and indeed any company where there is no barrier to entry.0 -
Hi Floxxie
I am considering my options but I feel that being an Estate Agent would be a challenge in terms of sales which I don't have direct experience of but would like to try. I am highly organised & like to be busy so the visits & paperwork etc should not be a problem. I am good at dealing with customers & clients. I also feel like its something I could progess in quickly.
Why did you leave the profession if you don't mind me asking?
Sorry for the delay in responding! Having worked in several tough sales jobs, estate agency sales is not as difficult but it is monotonous - you are trying to sell the services of the estate agency, the mortgage broker and the legal firms as well as get houses sold.
Unfortunately it is not necessarily busy at negotiator level (it is great when the market is buoyant) so you have to make your own work which does require you to call all the people who have registered and keep the sellers happy.
As for the reason why I left, the estate agency I worked for suffered a serious theft which had an impact on the cash flow. They found out who committed it in the end but by then my hours had been dropped from full to 4 hours a week so it wasn't possible to continue. Now I have moved to Northern Ireland, it is very backward and I wouldn't want to do the job here although I am tempted to start my own agency and show them what proper house photos should look like :rotfl:Mortgage start September 2015 £90000 MFiT #060 -
