It's all going online. There can't be enough 'walk in' business to make branches viable any longer.

It would only be "good" if the thread title read:

    "Swinton to close"

Swinton and other brokers who are not specialist or trusted enough will face closure as time goes on. If they were providing a good local broking experience which people wanted to use, then they might survive. But recently i have never been passed a Swintons where they had a customer in branch or many on the phone speaking to customers.

Some other broking chains have been buying up others and i think much of their work will end up in regional contact centres. They had to take on the brokers branches, but they seem to close some of them, leaving few open.

Within 10 years you will see some UK Insurers being bought by foreign companies with more jobs of-shored. Someone i know has been out to India training up call centre staff on Home Insurance. There was a period of jobs being brought back to the UK, but i think many of the large companies will revert back to what they were doing previously.

With technology improving all of the time and IT staff being available in large numbers much cheaper in India, many of the customer service/admin jobs will migrate as well. Given the national living wage increase and other costs, the UK will not compare very well with other countries.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

What do you call 130 Swinton branches at the bottom of the ocean?

    A good start

I have my home insurance through Swinton and have never had a problem. Do everything on the phone to my local branch

Yes, but i predict more if this, including companies with large numbers of policies e.g Direct Line, Aviva. The current government does not believe in protecting markets and would not refer any takeover bids to market regulators.

It was only about 8 years ago, Swintons were offering my friend something ridiculous like £130 per motor/household customer and £30 per travel policy. To buy just his personal lines customers.
