Double glazing quickie

Hi,

Does it cost less to have replacement double glazing fitted than having double glazing installed the first time around?

Im presuming so?

Cheers,

CR

If you are just replacing the glass sealed units then this will be cheaper than having new windows fitted. No doubt this will be cheaper than the original fitting but this depends how long ago that was. If it was, say 30 years ago, then who knows when inflation is factored in?

If you are thinking of removing your windows and doors and replacing with new windows and doors this will cost more than it did originally.
  • windows are 20 years old now at least and was looking to have the windows changed inc units. Was assuming that as the hole was there rather than pulling out single pain windows it would be cheaper.

frames have always been crap and leaky.
  • Best to go for complete new units (modern technology ETC)

It might be a bit cheaper with an independent firm if they come to do the quote and they can see the window surrounds are properly done and in good condition.
I doubt it will make any difference to the national chains, but stay away from them anyway.

Replacing them is unlikely to be cost effective in energy savings. So if you do it, do it for cosmetic reasons, or possibly noise (but you'd want special accoustic units).
Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.

The windows will have been made to fit the gap, the same as your new ones will be.
No difference in workload so no cheaper.
