Bit of a non techie here but just set up friends Telewest with a wireless router, bought a Buffalo from PCW at £30 Collect and Go, bargain price down from £50.

Anyway, it is plugged in going through the supplied Telewest modem (sounds the same as your one Jean) and then into the desktop via a usb cable. So the desktop is wired but then the laptop picks it up via its wireless card?

Now, there was nothing easy about this and according to the pc there is no adaptor but both the pc and the laptop are receiving signals and the internet is working on both.

    Probably no help at all.....

You need a basic 10/100 ethernet card.

No you won't damage your pc.

Disk space unlikely to be the cause of your problems.

To check out my chipset drivers I would have to plug the modem back into the PC as I cannot get internet connection otherwise. This could take some time!

Not really. Just download 'advisor.exe' to your laptop. Copy it to floppy and install it on the Gateway.

When you've run it copy the details to notepad, transfer to floppy and then load on laptop and paste into website from floppy.

    Crikey that was scary.

Before I read your message I had unplugged my router and plugged the modem back in but, when I re-booted my PC it froze every time. Tried 4 times then at the user log-in cancelled the log-in and uninstalled the Adapter. Thankfully it worked. Has taken until now to get it sorted.

Have actioned the Belarc Advisor. Page of info is HUGE. What do you need me to cut and paste?

OK - just PM it to me (all of it) and I'll try find chipset drivers you need from the info.
