Hi all,
I had a complaint in with Barclays over my additions bank account. Spoke to some guy on the phone about it after a couple of weeks. Checked my account online today and I had received a payment form Barclays of £320. I had my additions account for 13 years and expect a bit more than that!
I thought they would send me a letter before they put any money in my account.
Did I go in half cocked? Should i have told them how much I expected as opposed to allowing them to calculate it.
Going to call them up on Wednesday as Ive got the day off but any advice before then would be great.
*** Just realised that Ive posted this in the wrong sub forum can a mod move this for me please ***

It is the right board.
How much would your calculation have been, and what was the basis of your complaint? If there's a reasonable difference compared to the £320 you have received then it's certainly worth asking them to explain how they came to that figure, so you can challenge it if necessary.0 -

Thanks for your reply. My calculations put it at over £2000, my complaint was based upon being sold the package to get an overdraft. When I spoke to them on the phone in January they asked about travel insurance and said that I added it myself after opening the account. As far as i was aware I always had the travel insurance and did at one point inquire about it just in case i had to use it.
I have never made a claim on it or used any part of the package.0 -

Just bear in mind if the additions account gave you an overdraft how much higher your overdraft interest would have been without it.
You need to factor this into the equation.0 -

That is the sort of thing that I was hoping they were going to calculate for me as getting 13 years of statements pulled out then going through would be a very lengthy process but one Im more than willing to do if it comes to it.
Thankfully Im not one to sit in the red and have rarely dipped into the over draft for more than a couple of days.
I will be calling then in the morning so hopefully I'll have more to go on tomorrow.0 -
So I have received a letter form Barclay's and spoke to them about it on the phone.
They have upheld my complaint from 2003 to 2005 from when I initially opened the account till I upgraded to an Additions plus account.
From 2005 to 2015 has not been upheld as this was not considered a mis-sold product. As there is a 'insert industry name' note on my account asking for this.
The guy on the phone was quite sure I had grounds for a complaint though in a very round about way told me that he couldn't tell me what it was lol.
As far as I am concerned I had always had travel insurance on this account and I merely went into the bank to find out how I could use it not upgrade the actual account.
Does the fact I possessed the account because I thought it was the only way to access an overdraft not roll over from before the upgrade?
I now know these things need to be worded in quite a particular manner and seeing as I doubt there is a template for this I am off into personally uncharted waters.
I genuinely feel I was mis-sold this bank account because if had had known that there was a fee free alternative with an overdraft i would of taken/changed to it. . Travel insurance is super cheap and I wouldn't pay a monthly fee just to have it?
The guy from Barclays said I had to think about what happened at the point of sale of the Additions Plus but I was never sold it and until today I thought it had all been one account?
Sorry for the wall of text.0 -
Both myself and my son claimed from Barclays for the years 2001 - 2015 on the basis of being mis-sold the additions and additions plus accounts. Last week I received a cheque for £3200 and my son got £2500 back a couple of days later. I would certainly take your complaint to the ombudsman0
