Capital one default

in Credit cards
Hi all
Years ago I got a £250 limit capital one card, used it a couple times and cleared the balance, at some point I moved house and had forgot about the card as if cut it up and forgot to change the address with them, some time later they caught up with me and had an outstanding balance due to ppi charges and late payment charges, I reluctantly paid it and told the person on the phone to cancel the account, she said she would.
Some years later after moving house a couple times again they contacted me again with the same issue, I payed the balance once more and said they had to close tha account as stated last time. Now, I see they have left a default on my credit score which has lost me the chance to get a mortgage, would it be possible to contest this and get it cleared!?
Any advice greatly received.

No, but you could check whether it was applied at a reasonable time and potentially challenge that - ie was it around the time of the default.0

You mean when the ppi charges were added??0

No - several months later - after you repeatedly failed to pay them.0

No - I mean when you defaulted on the account - ie started missing payments.0

That wouldn't help me much really, I'm not wanting any of the money back really, just want it wiped of my credit score but it's obviously it's not likely.
Annoying because my credit score would be excellent if not for a default of over £100.0 -

You won't get any money back. My point was that the default should have been registered shortly after you defaulted on the account.
The earlier it was applied, the sooner it will fall off.
If it was applied much later, you could potentially challenge it and have it back dated.0 -
Ok thanks I'll look into that then, unfortunately it won't make much difference for the mortgage I want before the end of the year.0

Go to a whole of market mortgage broker, they will likely be able to assist if the only issue is a £100 default and otherwise clean searches.0
