Hi, I was wondering if anyone had their debts written off after so many years and if so how? Also did anyone get any money back?

Where do you live? And can you give some information specific to your situation?

Who are your debts with ?

    How old are they ?
  • I live in leeds. The loans are with black horse, everyday loans and welcome finance
  • I've had the debt for 10 years. What information do you want?
  • When did you last make a payment towards them or otherwise acknowledge them? More than 6 years ago?

If you live in England, debts become statute barred after a period of time, usually six years after the last payment / default date.

This doesn't mean they're written off. You still owe the money. (That's why I was asking, as in Scotland they are written off) They just can't pursue you for it through the courts and effectively you can ignore any letters they sent out.

What makes you think you would get money back?

  • My last payment to them was 1st feb and my next is coming out tomorrow. My boyfriend just mentioned something about them being written off after a certain amount of time so thought I'd ask.

If you're still making payments to them, they won't write it off. Why would they?

  • No. Debts are basically there until they are paid off.
  • Only asking. Thanks
