is an aftermarket iPad battery worth it - or just junk?

Having had really bad luck with laptop batteries in the past I was wondering whether it would be any use changing an old iPad 3 battery to a aftermarket one. There doesn't seem to be any genuine Apple replacement battery in the market and the only option is to go aftermarket.

Just wondering if it's worth breaking the adhesive seal and taking a chance with one. Or whether I should just stick with the degraded OEM battery.

I don't know about the particular model, but many apple products have the batteries glued in, deliberately designed to be impossible for a user to replace (and a recycling/ecological disaster).

Aside from that, after market batteries come in qualities from great to dangerous, and there's no way to tell which is which, price tells you very little indeed.

There's another factor, which is that the old battery may be fine, but software bloat and inefficiency and more round-trip connections are just hitting it harder. Try a full system restore and see if things behave better, but every game, every app, even the operating system continuously badgers the network either to log personal details, game updates, sync mails, sync files and photos, check for updates, etc. Massive battery killer!
