I have some basic knowledge of computers, but not really that much. I was thinking of doing this course. But am not sure. It costs 500 pounds.

One of the problems is I am a Uk citizen but live in Japan so need a distance learning course. I looked at the OU, they have two courses- beyond goofgle for 400 pounds and designing websites for 400 pounds.
appreciate any advice.

I've worked in IT since 1986.... I'd love to know where all these high paid IT jobs are....
The reality is they want you to take their course, they might be able to find you a low wage starter job in the industry, after that you are on your own. To get the bigger salaries you would need to continue to study - and - be in a company where the skills you are studying can be used - and - get VERY good at those - and - wait ages to get promoted.
P.S. I say "worked in"... I haven't worked in IT for a few years now. Just can't find the jobs. Or I get interviews but not the jobs because the employers are SO specific about exact qualifications/experience ... and there's always somebody else that has the exact match. Never me quite. I even spent £2k last year updating one piece of paper I have trying to work. Still not a sniff of an IT job. ... not given up yet though.0 -
I have been / am studying with the OU and would highly recommend them if you do decide to do a course.
Like the others say, stay away from computeach though0 -
The thing is the OU until the end of the year only offer two courses if you live in Japan. This will change next year though. Why the OU? Why not computeach, isnt their basic course good for getting me into IT.0

I hate Computeach.
5years ago I paid £4500 for a Microsoft web page design course. I was only 2 months into the course when I had a marige breakdown and put the course on hold. 3 years later I tried to re-open my studies and Computeach said that my time had lapsed and I was not entitled to any refund.
When I was studying and needed advise from their help-line, I would have to wait at least 24 hrs for help.
Absolute load of crap, full of conmen sales people.
For my £4500 I got revision papers, 1 Microsoft front page book and front page 2002.
AVOID is my advise. What goes around - comes around
give lots and you will always recieve lots0
