Tyres: What are those crack marks?

So an update. Did my MOT this morning. The guy in charge of the test told me that there was at least 12 months left but that I would have had to check the tyres every week for cracks for the white layer underneath. These started to appear on the outer side of the tyre as well. I didn't fail the MOT.
The tyres got changed a few minutes ago (£90 for a pair from tyresonthedrive, replaced them with Delinte). They were the original ones on the car, from 2007! So no wonder did they fail after 9 years. Also the correct pressure according to the chaps is 32PSI.
Look for a 4-digit on the wheel to determine the date of production of the tyre. So 4113 = 41st week of 2013:rolleyes: Links are a man's best friends.com0 -
Good advice from the tester, and a good decision to change them anyway at that sort of age - the whole "5 year" thing is a bit OTT but, after nearly a decade, they certainly wouldn't have been at their best.
Still, interesting to note that, despite popular belief, you hadn't actually fallen off the road with them yet
