O/S Daily Monday 29 February 2016
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
DH up and gone to work early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly so he can get ready for school.
Still dark, but looks very frosty and cold.
Dinner last night was a meal out with friends for DH and myself, DH had chicken and ham pie, chips, peas and gravy, I had fish pie and salad – all the food was lovely, when we arrived at the restaurant we normally arrive after the lunchtime rush and before the evening one starts but yesterday it was packed but we were seated straight away and we didn’t wait long for our food either, and it was very good value for money. The boys had a lasagne that I’d left in the fridge for them, DH and I didn’t get home until into the evening, and we left the house at 11.30am. The meeting we went to we got all the info we needed but was quite obvious that the person running it hadn’t done any preparation, we don’t have any issues with a meeting being informal but when the person running it quite obviously doesn’t know what they are doing it’s quite off putting. The person came to our friends who we were sat with at the break for tea and coffee and said they hadn’t prepared for it and hadn’t got anything written down. When DH used to run any of these meetings he would always have done some prep work – you may be the most confident person and know what you want to say but once you’re on a stage in front of 50+ people it’s scary and it’s best to have some prompt notes.
Back to work for me today – so we’ll see what today brings, hopefully quite a busy day so it’ll pass quickly, hoping we have working technology.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
What fantastic weather we had over the weekend, the garden has been tidied, windows cleaned and washing dried. DW emptied this morning.
I may or may not be starting my new job today (been doing the job for months but new contract means longer hours), as it's the council no-one knows what's going on!
Used my rice cooker to steam veg for my dinner and put a piece of salmon in foil and cooked that too - it was all delicious, not much to wash up and all done in 15 mins.
Hope you all have a good week. Take care. XX0 -
Morning all
Hubby is on lates, so he's still in bed, I've taken him a cuppa, I'll drink my cuppa and then set off to DD2 to help with the morning chaos.
I got all the washing dried yesterday and bottomed out the kitchen, I have one coloured round left to do on 12 crochet squares, so I will try to get the yarn to join them after work, then my blanket will be finished.
The fish are tapping on the glass they are waiting for breakfast.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
It's a dry but cold morning here but I think it is going to be sunny later. Hubby has gone off to work ok and the girls are flitting around getting ready for school.
It's Monday morning so that must mean I am starting a new diet :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:. This week's attempt is Weight Watchers. I've planned all my food for the day and still have plenty of points left over. I will just take it a meal at a time and hopefully have some success. My eldest daughter is getting married in August and I need to find something nice to wear so that means shedding some lard. She is doing the 5:2 diet and looking really well on it.
My CMHT lady is coming to see me this morning after I was a misery last week. Hopefully she will see the change in me and won't be so concerned. I have an appointment with my psychiatrist on Friday as well so I would like to be well for that too.
I am making a lamb curry for tea with basmati rice for me and hubby and a pasta, tuna and courgette in cheese sauce for the girls.
Fingers crossed my wool gets here today and I can crack on with making my Easter chicks. I am going to send some to all the little one's in my family. I ordered a load of creme eggs as well but they are safe from me as I am not keen as I find them very sickly.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up too, take care xx0 -
Morning all. Brr a frosty start for us but what an amazing sunrise - the sky is bright red. Beautiful.
No fixed plans for today but hoping we can manage a nice walk before the forecast rain arrives late this afternoon. Some ironing to catch up on and the end of the month finances to do. And I really must get on with colouring my hair - the roots are a disgrace! I have postponed it long enough! Not much to do in the way of cooking. Some l/o beef, veg, etc to warm up for dinner tonight. Lunch will be whatever needs eating up in the fridge!
CANDELIGHT you have my utmost admiration for persevering with the BS diet. I can't imagine life without bread - it's my biggest downfall!
Have a good day all (((HUGS))) where wanted/needed. Take care xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning :hello:
lol @ Scampi in DMs! I could get goggles for him too, he'd look like a proper biker dogThe jacket definitely helps him feels secure and more confident - head up, nice and proud when out walking

Master tru finally cleared all the junk from under the washing lines, so I hung the washing outside yesterday. Realised as soon as I came back in that I'd need to move most of it to get to the shelves I wanted to clear. Decided the washing was more important (for that, read I couldn't be bothered to bring it back in again) so I still haven't sorted the shelves.
Scampi was on his best behaviour yesterday, hopefully it'll continue today and our walk will be long and peaceful!
I'll definitely get those shelves cleaned up this morning, then I'll whizz round with the hoover. I want to get two more cushion covers finished this afternoon, plus sort out my baby blankets and take some photos of them.

Morning all,
Had another good night with Evie she is such a little love, I am a bit concerned that she is not playing yet, im not sure sge know howbut I am hoping that it will come once she trusts us. She has gone to my FIL today while we are at work so hope she is ok there.
Off to work for me, dd is having another driving lesson today and will be in first so will start the dinner which will be spag bol.
Got loads of washing dried over the weekend so none to do tonight.
Evie loved the beach yesterday and ran and chased for a good 1/2 hour she would not paddle though :rotfl:she was shattered when she got home and slept all evening, I am not sure she is used to being walked.
Right have good days all xxx0 -
Morning everyone.
Cold and frosty here again, though not as hard as yesterday. Think there is rain forecast for later unfortunately.
Yesterday was a very leisurely day here. I spent a long time doing meal planning and then changed my mind lots of times. A nice neighbour turned up with some deer antlers for the garden- seems that squirrels chew on them to get extra calcium missing from their diet. I not convinced but it costs nothing to try. I'll be looking out for it this morning.
I must get myself up to Oban today for a shop, I need things I won't be able to get locally. And I've got some work emails to tackle at least one of which will be difficult.
I've been experimenting with the speech recognition software on the laptop - it's a Windows feature. After working out to use it I found it both useful and annoying, the programme struggles with vowel sounds. Mind you the software on my phone and tablet is much better so I'll be talking to myself a lot today. :rotfl:
Anyway, time to stir. I hope everyone has a lovely Monday.0 -
Morning everyone,
Just a quick post today as its nose back to the grindstone, made my mind up over the weekend to look for something else as the job is simply not what was advertised so not what I want long term, but least am now earning whilst I look
Had a lovely day yesterday with Mum, we walked and looked at the snowdrops which were fab, it's so nice to see the trees and bushes in bud / bloom as well. My Mum walks so much better now she has lost all that horrid fluid in her legs, it's good to see. We also downloaded Philomena for her to watch as she had missed it during the week, so sad when you think it's a true story, what was done to those young mothers was appalling.
Anyways, better get a wriggle on, hope your appointment goes well Dumpling, take care all and have a good day x0 -
Morning all.
RR Evie might might not be much of a playful doggy. Only one of mine is and she didn't play till she was a good age... She chewed instead.
Disaster in this house this morning. Just had a message from hubby. The car is sick. It only just made it to work. As I expected of course, he hasn't spent enough money on it yet (where's the sarcastic smiley when I need it?). He's also forgotten to take a weeks worth of sandwiches with him. Sod me they were in a bright orange bag in the fridge level with his face. I wonder if they will freeze? He didn't sleep well though and Youngest didn't notice either.
More to come later...
Onwards and forwards

Good morning all,
Thank you nmic for starting us off.
Cold and frosty here, but looks as though it should be a nice day.
TA, believe it or not we are both doing well, and I think I can live without my beloved bread. I am really enjoying the different meals now and look forward to them.
Gers, the avocado with a poached egg is absolutely delicious (I don't want to spoil your meal plan:)), and I have adapted some of the recipes in the book to our likes. I honestly don't think we could achieve 800 cals, more like 1000, but have definitely done away with carbs, and the midriff bulge is lessening by the day. Good luck with it, I think you will enjoy it
Had a good day yesterday, cleared the sink unit out, gave it a good clean, through sprays away with just a tiny bit in. I then moved on to the cutlery drawer. I can't understand why it always ends up with crumbs in it. Anyway all washed and dried, threw a few things out I don't use, next is to move on to the cupboards and the other 3 drawers.
I hope it is nice where you are.
Have a good day
