Rewiring landing light, red and green wires?

So iv rewired the landing light in the hall downstairs and it was pretty simple. Im now attempting to do the landing one, however upon taking off the old light I'm left with 2 cables coming through, both with 2 wires in, a red and a green. Firstly I'm unsure why there is no neutral wire? And the green one I'm assuming is earth but I thought they were normally yellow and green. Can anyone shed some light on how I would rewire please?

I strongly advise you to someone in that knows what he is doing!I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0

If your looking at domestic wiring in red then your house may need a rewire. If you do a search on the internet you can find wiring diagrams for intermediate switching.0

Two wires = no earth.
No earth = potential for instant death by keen amateurs.
By the way, just for the record, no earth = do NOT use any metal light fittings/shades on there!0 -
Never seen any cables with just red and green, something wrong somewhere.0

Sounds like 4 core with the 2 unused cores cut back. Fairly normal for double switching circuits such as landings
4 core for that application used to be red, green, blue and yellow, however, it has now been harmonised into the brown. blue etc system.
I have that cable in my landing light switching circuit using 3 switchesThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
You need to be a bit careful. My mate screwed of the wiring for his landing light and ended up not being able to turn it off.
When he got up the next morning he found his hall was full of aeroplanes.0 -
Can you post a pic showing where the wires are connected please.0
