Super sharp claws!

I love the cat sitting on my knee but she has such sharp claws that kneading totally destroys my trousers. She will not sit on a throw or a cushion, just on my knee.
Similarly she is gradually shredding the sofa in my home office that she sits on- the surface of the leather seat cushion is now pierced with tiny holes. At least she will sleep on a chenille throw on the top cushion
I would rather have the cat cuddly and happy than pristine trousers or furniture but she is always so sharp footed? Our previous cat always were keep their claws in types!
Any advice please?

I trim my cats nails, but have done it from kittens so they are used to it.Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!0

Scratching post
I also have been trimming my cats nails, small nail clippers will do. DO NOT CUT THE PINK BIT IN THE NAILS.0 -
Thanks
I think she would leave me looking like roadkill if I dared to touch her paws.
she only likes being petted around the head, and will dip her back if people try to stroke her back
rolling on the floor is a trap -stroke he underside and she will mangle you.
she just turned up a year ago so no idea of her history.
I bought a scratching post but no interest0 -
I think some cats are claws in and some are claws out when they play or knead you.
I'm interested to see if you can teach a claws out cat to become a claws in cat... I don't believe you can.
When I have a claws out cat on my lap, I just put a thick blanket between me and them. It's either that or look like I've got a massive pinprick rash on my thighs :undecidedI'm an adult and I can eat whatever I want whenever I want and I wish someone would take this power from me.

Not much you can do I'm afraid, if she goes outdoors you can't clip them as she wouldn't be able to defend herself properly.
Our cat only likes horizonal scratchers, maybe that would help?0 -
I think I am the horizontal scratcher!
It is just kneading which she means well as a comfort thing so cannot tell her off even if it is a bit painful0
