Travel insurance: 69 now but 70 before a long-haul trip

I was going to buy annual travel insurance now as I have booked a short break in May to Jersey (before I am 70) but, by the time I hope to have a longer holiday to Vietnam in Oct, I will be 70.

If I buy annual travel insurance for up to 69 years old now, will I still be covered later for the Vietnam trip when I will be 70? Or should I buy 70+ annual insurance now? Or, cheaper one-off insurance for the Jersey trip and then buy 70+ one off trip later for the Vietnam trip?

Are you sure that the annual cover you are considering is only up to 70? I've just looked at the policy for my (free) cover from Nationwide and it covers up to 75. Although I haven't yet found what happens if you turn 75 during the period of cover, so you may well hit the issue eventually whoever you insure with.

Thanks agrinnall - I'll have another look (had just looked briefly at a couple of annual policies recommended on this site and 69 seemed to be the upper limit for that age range).

From the Nationwide website "Be aged 16 - 75 (your cover will continue until your 75th birthday, after that you need to purchase an age upgrade policy annually to continue using your cover).

With NatWest it is 70 and then you have to pay £50 a year, this would be on top of any pre-existing medical issues.

That really clarifies it - thanks! I will buy insurance per trip this year rather than annual insurance.

Why not open the appropriate Nationwide account?

The European cover is free and it's £20 to upgrade to Worldwide cover.

    No brainer IMHO.
