Disposal of old kitchen knives

I have several old, no longer sharp, kitchen knives in my knife block and I really don't know how to dispose of them.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can do this safely?

Wrap them in newspaper and put them in the bin.

Can they not be sharpened and continued to be used? My knives need sharpening regularly....almost every use.

Take them to the local cop shop and they will put them in with the recovered weapons that are going to be melted down.

I thought that was only in one area that I can't recall right now where there is a current problem with knife crime.

My local police station does not accept knives.

Just throw them behind some bins and make a call mentioning knife wielding thugs in that area. Police will be on the scene in minutes to pick them up and dispose of them for you.

  • Thank you all, I have decided to buy a knife sharpener firstly, as suggested by Happy and if that doesn't work will wrap them securely and dispose of them in the bin.

I thought of those knife amnesty bins but I can't remember having one in our city for many years.

    Once again many thanks

There was one in January this year, in West Yorkshire. Is this the area you were thinking of?

The area I live in has no problem at all with knife crime. Or much crime at all lol but the cop shop does take knives and will destroy them.

I'd recommend calling first. It's probably not a good idea walking into a police station with a knife in your hand.

someone asked this question before and a poster suggested putting them inside a pringles tube and then into the bin. Seemed like a good reason to buy pringles to me!

This is one of the things that got my goat when Tesco decided to do a free knives promotion a few years back. Save up coupons and get new knives you didn't really want, then what happens to your old ones? The world really needs more knives! I got sent a carving set I didn't want as a free gift by a kitchen company when I bought a kitchen trolley. Had a really difficult job knowing what to do with them, a friend took them in the end for her parents.
