alternatively, have a look at www.ba.com. There's a direct flight from Gatwick to Gran Canaria which seems to be 4 days a week (Monday and Wednesday are cheaper).

The furthest ahead I could get it to give me was 19th-26th April 2006. This came out at £645 including tax for 2 adults and three children. I should think you can probably find some kind of hotel and airport parking special deal at Gatwick for much less than £350 ;)

It is normally 330 days in advance that you can book flights on scheduled airlines, although if the outward leg is within that timescale and the return leg outside you can sometimes get a result.

We would really prefer to go from East Mids, Birmingham being our 2nd choice. The London airports are a no-no really because neither of us drive and are on a tight time limit (husband would have to leave work and travel either that evening or the next morning).

The £645 sounds great - hope I can get a good deal.

Great to know about the time I can book. It will be fastest finger first 330 days before my holiday date!

The change at Madrid would have been ok if we were only taking 2 of our kids but the 3rd will be 4 yrs old - we might be able to do it I suppose as we would be able to stretch our legs but as you say it would take longer.

The duty free is very tempting. We bought some Artemi (Canarian Rum) - we were allowed 2 bottles each because they were 20% vol. I gave 2 of these to my mum :O(
We didn't want to go over the limit being the scardy cats we are (the staff wore white gloves which gave the impression of examinations at the ready).
Shame we did stick to the limit because we just sailed through all the way back (excuse the pun).

Not sure where you live, but have you thought about looking at flights from Doncaster (Robin Hood Airport!) or Coventry?

On the holiday villa, doubt whether there's anything cheaper than your excellent sounding £200, but have you looked on https://www.holiday-rentals.com for other suggestions. Alternatively, in "The Lady" magazine there's loads of private people who advertise their holiday villas.

Will have a look at the holiday rentals site, thanks.
