Eating near Gatwick Airport

Ok. Travelling to Amsterdam in May & meeting eldest DS the night before and staying in the Yotel. It's a Sunday night and primarily staying at the airport cos he's coming from Portsmouth and I dare to risk him oversleeping & missing our flight.
The original plan was to have breakfast in the BA lounge before the flight, but that's closed until Nov and reports on Flyertalk of the No.1 lounge are discouraging.
So we need somewhere to eat the night before and then breakfast after security. I'm being dropped off so no transport available. Any recommendations for a Sunday evening close by the airport or even into Crawley? I'm presuming we can get a bus to places. It also needs to be cheap & plentiful as DS1 is built like Stephen Merchant and even though it's his 21st birthday treat, he still eats like a growing teenager.
Many thanks.

There's a Wetherspoons (Red Lion) at North terminal after Security.
In our experience it can be very busy early morning.
Here's the link to all places to eat in the North terminal:

When we fly from LGW, we stay in Horley (on Massetts Road) and there's a number of pubs doing food.
Not sure about buses from the airport though.
There's a Wetherspoons (The Beehive) landside at the South terminal - I believe your hotel is at South Terminal. You could eat there the night before your flight so wouldn't have to leave the airport.0 -
Thanks for that. We probably want to leave the airport just to get out & about. Had a look on train line & it's only 5 minutes into Crawley, or about 30 into London, so might go into Chinatown while it's still there.Noli nothis permittere te terere

We stay at North Terminal Premier Inn, arriving by train from Fareham.
As soon as we've checked in, normally at about 1500, we go back to the train station. Get the train [one stop] to Horley, and go to the Jack Fairman Wetherspoons, which is only a couple of minutes walk.

It's a lovely building with some interesting photos (and really nice Ladies toilets).0
