My microwave timer has a mind of its own. It sometimes counts up instead of down eg I set it for 3minutes and next I look it says 6minutes. Means I have to keep an eye on it. Any suggestions please? Buy a new one presumably!

A microwave only are cheap to buy.You can spend bad money on repairs.
Our microwave is too small for a normal dinner plate and the writing on the dials has worn away(I know what does what). It works perfectly but will soon be replaced by a simple machine, hard wearing graffics and of a larger capacity....at least 25L.
We 1st had a combination microwave which was a nightmare with baked on food.We found it only suitable for baked potatoes or microwaving.0 -
Does the microwave always increase the time, or does it also reduce timing. If it only increases the timebuy a simple free standing timer to stand on worktop. Cheaper than a new microwave.0

Yup, live with it or buy a new one. When I worked for Hotpoint we never repaired microwaves. Under guarantee - give them a new one. Out of guarantee - sell them a new one.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

Thanks. Good suggestion. But it does go either way, and sometimes both ways if I open the door mid programme!Does the microwave always increase the time, or does it also reduce timing. If it only increases the timebuy a simple free standing timer to stand on worktop. Cheaper than a new microwave.0 -
Was really just wondering if this is a common fault as it is the second one I've had do the same thing!EssexExile wrote: »Yup, live with it or buy a new one. When I worked for Hotpoint we never repaired microwaves. Under guarantee - give them a new one. Out of guarantee - sell them a new one.0 -
I've never heard of it before but I haven't touched microwaves in years, except to use them of course.Freebie_Freak wrote: »Was really just wondering if this is a common fault as it is the second one I've had do the same thing!Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0 -
sounds like your house is in a different time and dimension?

Don't mean to sound insulting, but are you using it correctly? Quite a lot of people where I work tap in the cooking time on the microwave and press start, but don't realise they've actually set the program for defrosting 300 grams of meat which runs n minutes at 20% then x minutes at 40% etc. They don't realise they needed to set the power level before tapping in the time for it to work how they expected.0
