Bank of Scotland - two linked questions ...

I have a large-ish sum in a 5 year account with Coventry - fixed rate ends on 31st April so need to find a new home for it.

I'm maxed out on all the high interest current accounts available (including joint accounts ....) EXCEPT Bank of Scotland

two questions are:

1. Are they still linked in any way to Halifax - will our six-between-us (from the days before the limits...) Halifax Reward accounts be any obstacle to opening BOS accounts? (EDIT: Oh ....and our Club LLoyds accounts ..!!) and

2. Allegedly you can have three each - can these all be opened easily online ? Have people opened all three instantly or would it be wise to space out the applications?

Thanks as always......

    31st April?:D

    1) My Halifax current account and credit card appear when I log into BoS online & with mobile app. I find it useful:)

At one time I had 3 sole Lloyds Vantage accounts and 3 sole BoS - so no issues for me. Now I have Club Lloyds, 1 old Lloyds Vantage, 3 BoS & 1 Halifax Reward

    2) I opened my 1st BoS account online in December 2012, used it as a 'proper' current account:p then opened 2nd and 3rd by phone about 6 weeks later. At that time, consensus was it was easier to open 2nd & 3rd by phone.

I still use all of the accounts at least 4 or 5 times a year for various payments so none are seen as simply a dumping ground holding max balance for interest;)
  • Ha Ha !

Not in the UK at the mo and did the date from memory .... I'm sure it's end April but forgot the rhyme for a moment (30 days hath September etc etc.....)

Thanks for the other info .... just been reading up on peoples experiences with HBOS account closures ... so may not chance my luck as too much of my other interest income comes from accounts with that group ....but still very interested in others' views....

Not keen on a large chunk of my interest income going down from 4.65% (which its ben earning since 2011...) to the low 1 point something %.....:cry::cry:

You could say that, Halifax is actually part of Bank of Scotland, as per http://www.halifax.co.uk/helpcentre/legal-information/:
Halifax is a division of Bank of Scotland plc
  • yes ...all bar one - but another reg saver wont swallow up much of the cash I need to find a home for - but six (me and OH...) BOS accounts at £5k each would...! Although of course I agree in principle with max- ing the interest on all the money .....

    Thanks again .....
  • You can get 3% interest for credit balances up to £3k in Tesco, can have two accounts with no fee and no regular minimum payment or requirements for DD's? Good mobile app too.
