URGENT help requested - faulty purchase

Hi,

I have a AV receiver which was purchased at Christmas. This has worked fine until yesterday when the sound stated to "pop" then all sound was completely lost. I have contacted the retailer to return the unit, but they have said I need to contact the Manufacturer.
I am quite certain that my contract is with the retailer, but they seem to be sticking to their statement and say that I need to resolve the problem via the manufacturer.
can anyone please advise

Regards

Your rights are against the vendor but it may be worth contacting the manufacturer and see what they say .

Although your rights are with the retailer, if you insist on dealing with the retailer, then they will probably just send the unit to the manufacturer for a repair or replacement if a repair is not economically viable and this will just delay you getting a working AV receiver.

yes it is. It was a purchase via their website (Exceptional AV, Maidstone)

Thanks for that ..... didnt see it from that angle. They just appeared to be a bit obstructive in their communication

If the manufacturer insist on you sending it back to them at your expense then this will be a good time to go back to the seller and get them to deal with it. You shouldn't be out of pocket if the item is faulty.

i wouldn't go in all guns blazing as a popping of an amplifier usually comes after a speaker cone has suffered meltdown either due to being overdriven into clipping or worse the impedance was too low
see what manufacturer says because as already been noted this is all the shop would do anyway

I don't understand why this thread is marked "URGENT"?

In any case OP, you're absolutely right that your contract is with the retailer - however you have to pick your battles and if the item is still under manufactures warranty then just send it off to them and let them deal with it, especially in your case when the retailer has already turned you away. Why? Because the end result is you get the item repaired/replaced quicker going directly to the manufacturer vs having a long winded argument with the retailer, who once they accept your right will then just send it off to the manufacture themselves.

No," Help! A large wasp is carrying off my child"
    Or " I've fallen down a well"
Is the criteria for urgent this forum.
    It's the rules..
