Rights when buying a car

I am hopefully going to purchase a car this weekend. It has the statutory 3 months warranty.

My question is if I just put a minimal amount on the credit card, what exactly are my rights after the 3 month period?

Buying with a credit card doesn't give you an extended warranty,
  • Buying with a credit card doesn't give you an extended warranty,

Supposing in the unlikely event something major went wrong on month 4 ( it has only done 24k so I am looking at worse case), could I make a claim against them that it should have lasted longer?

No I don't believe so You would only have the same rights as you would against the retailer anyway. You would need to prove the good where not as described or where faulty at time of purchase to even have a chance of a section 75 claim

If you are buying goods, even second hand, from a retailer (and presumably you are if you are planning to use a credit card) then the Consumer Rights Act 2015 applies

  • Your "security" is better spent at the start than on worthless warranties.
Pay for a independent inspection and that means not one the garage recommends, a good real genuine HPI check not one of the mickey mouse ones.
Low mileage often suggests its been off road for some reason.
Always buy the car and never the dealers tale about a gardening nun or owned by a mechanic or old lady whos son worked for rolls royce.
Stick to the inspection report and go from there and eventually you gave to take a chance, as long as its not a Vauxhall or Renault / Nissan you have to be prepared to "own" the car and take on board things can go wrong at any time and budget for repairs.
Save money on useless warranties, they are never worth the paper they are written on, certainly any sold by dealers, ask for a price with gimmicks knocked off.
I do Contracts, all day every day.

Not necessarily. I use mine every day for work and still only do 6000 a year tops!
