O/S Daily Saturday 27 February 2016
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them x
Happy Birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light, it looks dry underfoot and no frost, surprising really because yesterday it was really bitter.
Dinner last night was chicken and ham kievs, chips, beans/salad, I had the roasted med veg tart and salad. There's a 3 quarters of the veg tart left, as I was the only one that had some, so that's in the fridge and will become part of a meal at some point over the weekend. I'm working today, DH is going to take me to work and on the way we'll fill the car with diesel. I have organised lunch for today - 2 x frozen pizzas in stock. Dinner tonight is southern fried chicken portions, salad, HM coleslaw, onion rings, buttered new potatoes.
I was reasonably productive yesterday - I got the shopping done, filled my car with fuel, bought a sack of potatoes from the farm shop. When I got home I made some cup cakes which DH says are dry but hey-ho don't eat them then - the boys will certainly not let them go to waste! I bought a ready made lasagne for the boys for tomorrow as we're out from lunchtime and will be eating with friends later afternoon/early evening.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Looks like it could be a nice day, washing ready to go on the line, stripped my bed last night. Also cleaned my bedroom, it has a wooden floor and the dust bunnies were huge!
Going for a swim this morning then if the weather is ok I'll meet DD and go for a walk/bike ride to make the most of the decent weather - something that doesn't cost much would be good!
Thai veggie curry for tea, the fridge is looking really quite empty so will need to get some veg sometime over the weekend.
MM - Lovely words for Judi.
tru - Hope Scampi behaves and your leg improves.
Hugs to you JackieO.
Have a good weekend. Take care. XX0 -
Morning everyone.
I've been lying awake since 6am just browsing and reading and watching the light rise.
After a day of cake and wine I'm ready for a bacon roll this morning. I'll do my mums shopping, deposit bags of stuff in a charity shop, change her printer cartridges and get myself back up the road.
I was delighted to see that my deceased friend had an obit in one of our national papers on Saturday, he so deserved it. Funny how all these plaudits come out after someone dies!
Anyway, breakfast at Wai*trose cafe I think. I'm veering towards a nice steak for evening meal tonight - I don't eat much beef generally but feel in the mood today. OH didn't make it up at the weekend but I'm not waiting til he's here for a steak! Older and bolshier. :rotfl:
Thanks for all the good wishes yesterday, I was touched by it.
Happy Saturday everyone.0 -
Morning :hello:
Dad's been having tests for a while, he suddenly became very out of breath (plus it hurt on his left side when he tried to take a deep breath) and wheezy a while back. He's always been very fit, had a physical job, walked and lifted weights so was most annoyed at having to stop doing everything. He had a scan and they found something (can't remember what they called it, it was something very vague) on his lung so he had a biopsy which was inconclusive so had to have an overnight stay in hospital so they could use a little camera to have a look around. Another x-ray (or maybe scan?) showed a little piece of asbestos in his lung and there are white marks on the outside of his lung. He's just seen the consultant for the results, the white things are tiny bits of calcium and nothing to worry about, the asbestos hasn't caused cell changes so nothing to worry about there either! The pain from breathing was probably from a pulled muscle, the wheeziness coincided with his flu jab, both cleared up quite quickly – after his first GP appointment but before his hospital appointment. He's 68 and retired so doesn't have to worry about working but is pleased to be able to start lifting his weights and go for walks again – especially his sunday lunchtime walk to the pubNow they know it's there, they're going to check on the asbestos every now and then to make sure there's no changes but it'll have been there for so long and the chances of a problem are quite slim.
I decided to take Scampi on a short walk yesterday morning, so started to hobble around the block and we came across one of the two dogs he refuses to get along with. A few (very few!) he's taken to straight away, most it takes a few meetings before he calms down but there's something about these two he just doesn't like. He went nuts and I didn't have the strength to drag him away so I just stood there, holding him on a very short lead so he couldn't yank me sideways and waited for the tantrum to stop. Once he's in that state, telling him off just seems to make him worse so I go silent, he hates thatHe managed to break his lead. I ignored him for a while when we got home and he soon started his apologies, lol. He soon started playing up again though, it lasted til a friend rang and asked if they could pop in with their dog – oh yes please! He finally calmed down when they arrived at teatime and I sent them off to play in the garden.
I keep missing news, sometimes I don't go back to the thread once I've posted. Must remember to do that
Still hobbling this morning so I'll ignore my list and just potter about, I'll get the dusting and vacuuming done then I must do some computer work. I'll keep an eye on the clock and make sure I only sit down for 30 minutes at a time so I don't seize up

Morning all
I've not been up long, I was awake twice during the night for a couple of hours.
Hubby & DGS are both still asleep, I'll do them both a cooked breakfast when they get up, then I need to go to DD2's and swap DGS for DGD, go to the DIY shop.
I went yesterday but got the wrong item, so need to go back and get the right piece today and then on to DD1's to sort out the plumbing.
I've no idea how long that will take so I won't make any further plans for today apart from ploughing through the washing basket and getting DGS's uniform ready for Monday.
Have a good day everybody.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning all
Things to do.. People to see and all that today....
The end of the month looming and hubby has to do his accounts. Ginge has to go to the vets at 12 to see about removing her stitches.
Need to go food shopping sometime today too. Eldest son phoned me last night to tell me he will be bringing his boys up to see me tonight. I'll believe it when I see it as he's been saying that for months. Hubby said if he does he's off down the shed cause they are wild. I think he means boisterous.
We have our other Grandson overnight too. I hope he sleeps this time. Last time we had him was a bit of a disaster.
Elona, thinking of you in your new home.
Onwards and forwards

Morning all. Mucho sniffling, coughing and peffing going on here. All week I have had signs of ""something" coming on and it eventually hit me last night with a vengeance. Grrr
What a worry for you TRU. It's draining waiting for test/scan results etc. Hope your dad goes on ok. And you too. Take it easy. The friend I have mentioned with the rescue Springer is having great results with the Thunder jacket she got for her. Almost every day she is happy to go out for her walks without problem. So money well spent it seems, even though her DH told her she was throwing money away!
The pre=weekend clean was done (albeit half-heartedly!) yesterday afternoon so not a lot planned for today. Though I must give the oven a clean! I hate that job. Then I might pop into town for a wander round. Not many exciting shops here sadly so that won't take long!
Have a good day all (((HUGS))) where wanted/needed. Take care xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
It's dry today but not as cold as the wind has dropped. Hubby is taking the girls for a dental checkup and then wants to take Max for a very long walk along the river. I will have ketchup on standby as Max always seems to find a stinky pile of fox poop to roll in and we found ketchup to be the only thing that gets rid of the smell...bizarre I know and I would love to know how the first person to try it out thought it would help :rotfl::rotfl:.
We have our usual Saturday morning clean up where the girls pick a room and crack on with cleaning it. I am hoping a very old friend of mine will come and see us today as he is in the area on holiday. I haven't seen him for about 10 years but we keep in touch through Facebook.
Jacket spuds for tea with salad and different toppings. I have two lots of cake to throw away which is very annoying. The girls like to bake it but not eat it and I am trying to cut down on the sugary stuff.
I've started knitting little chicks for easter to give to my friends and family. They only take about 45 mins to knit up and then I have to sew them up, put their beaks and eyes on and stuff a creme egg up their bottom. I've ordered some eyelash yarn to make fluffy chicks as well. I really enjoy making them but I can see us being over run with them as well as bankrupt from the cost of the eggs :rotfl:.
I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care x0 -
Morning everyone,
Dry, bright but cold here, hopefully we will see some sun today.
Had a lovely day yesterday, my DOH spoilt me with such a thoughtful present, tickets to see the Spanish Riding School of Vienna when they come to the UK later in the year. It's something I've always wanted to see so am over the moon. Went out for lunch at Gir@fe which have to say was very tasty, ate far too much though :rotfl:
Will go and pick up Mum this morning to bring her over to stay overnight, what with starting new job and then the nasty virus haven't seen her for three weeks, so can't wait. She has said about seeing Bill so will take her over this afternoon and then see what we can do tomorrow.
Take care to all poorlies and people struggling at the moment x
Have a good day all x0 -
