Children in care

The whole area of child care is very different. Formal schooling starts later and there are more vocational courses available in later school. A similar proportion of GDP to the UK is spent on families and children , but where here it is mostly spent in the from of benefits, there it is spent on services.. . .I did not speak out
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me..

I saw that particular episode. It was like watching a long-slow car-crash.
The two 'parents' were pitiful and repulsive at the same time. It was clear that they had and were suffering, and it seemed unlikely that they could ever thrive in the future which was the pitiful bit.
It was repulsive as she smoked and drank during the pregnancy, had cuckolded him and he seemed not to notice that the child was mixed race while he was white..
He also merrily admitted that he might have fathered a child in his teens which he'd never seen (he said something along the lines that he forgot where she lived and gave up - a single brief sentence and then a shrug).
I already knew that children in care have dismal outcomes. But when I saw that they were just so very pathetic (well meaning but completely incompetent at fairly basic things), I actually found myself willing social services to take the kid into care.
It was clear that they loved the kid, they weren't particularly aggressive, but they seemed to have the maturity of young children, very impulsive and very poor communication skills. I never thought they could come off the drink or the drugs. I thought they would accidentally leave the kid on the bus or hock its pram for gear.0 -
I agree BigAunty.
I can only think of one thing worse than having your child removed unjustly and that’s leaving a child in those circumstances.
I also thought that if this program was seen by potential immigrants, they’d give the UK a wide berth.0
