First credit card for a student? (no credit history)

Hello, I'm a student (2nd year) and have never had a credit card before.
I'm looking to apply for a card I can use to buy parts for a computer I am going to build. I can't use the cash I have saved up as the stores are all online so I figured this was as good a time as any to get my first card. I'm the type of person to pay all bills on time and am not looking to be 'borrowing any money'.
Are there/which is the best credit card for people/students with no credit history? And are there any which also give 'cashback'?
Thanks for taking the time to read the post, any advice is appreciated.

your best bet is to approach your own bank.
at this stage i wouldn't worry about cashback cards as they tend to go to people with good credit histories whilst yours is likely to be rather sparse.
if your bank won't give you one try Barclaycard Initial which is marketed as a first time users card.
once you get one use it regularly and set up a DD for the full amount so you never forget to pay it off and you never pay any interest.0 -
I only have an Orange phone contract to my name, but was accepted for an Egg cashback card a couple of weeks ago, so that might be worth a go.0

I was in a similar situation about 3 yrs ago and although I do not know which credit cards give the best rates for students, I was accepted by my own bank and also by Egg, who started me on a £500 credit limit.0

I got a 'student barclaycard' when I was at uni, and they were falling over themselves to sign me up - the main reason I did was that they were offering a free inflatable chair!
Im sure there are still student friendly credit cards out there, look out for the ones with free gifts!Don't pay off your student loan quicker than you have to.0
