Nationwide "Select" (Visa) Credit Card

Options
Just applied for and received the Nationwide Select Card (I have a FlexDirect current account).

I got this card for the £25 cashback (direct from Nationwide) and one year balance transfer with no interest and no fee.

I've been reading the details again and the card also has 0% interest on the purchases for the first 12 months!

So this card seems to allow you break some of the golden rules - a balance transfer card that you can also use for day to day spending, and a cashback card that you don't need to pay off every month.

To summarise;

Free balance transfer - no fee, no interest

No interest on purchases

0.5% cashback on sterling purchases

Don't know why this hasn't been featured as a best buy?

  • Your absolutely right and also free transactions abroad I believe with no fee. It doesn't have the 0% length of some other providers though but overall it's made up by the other benefits. I also like the fact you can get a quote before your apply with an estimated credit limit without affecting your credit file. Now if only other lenders did this.

I think it breaks the rule even without 0% on purchases: Nationwide revamps credit card fees

Because it's a targeted offer, available to you and others personally addressed.

It's not available to all and sundry. Other applicants would get the general offer without the £25 cashback.

All 'benefits' are available to "all and sundry".

Yep. Not a targeted offer, although it is only available to people who have an active current account with Nationwide.

Nationwide is not my main Bank, but like many on here I'm a tart with current accounts all over the place.

That link shoes 'The Select Credit Card is available exclusively for our main current account customers', presumably not to new NW customers so not to all and sundry.

    Nick_C has the answer.

My wife's invitation (NW FlexPlus) has text to the effect 'because we know you'. :)

Well, it's certainly available to all current account holders meeting the eligibility criteria, not a "targeted offer" like you said.

    Also, they say:
You can apply for a Credit Card and open a current account at the same time.
    - and I don't see why " Other applicants would get the general offer without the £25 cashback": Terms and conditions
Introductory reward offer - Terms and conditions

    1. You must make qualifying transaction(s) totalling over £25 within the first 60 days of opening your credit card account. Qualifying transactions are purchases and balance transfers and do not include cash withdrawals.

    2. The £25 reward will be credited to your account within 90 days of the qualifying transactions being made.

    3. The £25 reward will not count towards any minimum payment requirements.

    4. Applications must be made between 4 November 2015 and 31 March 2016.

    5. If a qualifying transaction is refunded to your account we may remove the £25 reward if you no longer have qualifying transactions totalling over £25.

    6. If you already hold a Nationwide credit card or have closed one in the last 12 months you will not be eligible for the £25 reward.
