Delinquent account error on file

Options
Hi,

Quite a long story here. Am hoping someone could help please!

My partner and I are attempting to get a mortgage for our council house through a right to buy scheme, and we have a three month timescale in which to accept the valuation offer from the council (plus a further 28 days that I've found will be allowed before the offer is withdrawn). When we tried to get a mortgage agreed in principle yesterday, we discovered that there is a huge error on my partner's credit file. Basically, my partner took out a loan with Barclays back in 2002 and a huge lump sum PPI was added to it. He struggled to pay it for a while and they split it into two loans instead. It was all very confusing! My partner really was taken advantage of and buried his head in the sand for quite a while. However, over the years he has done very well in his career and started to cope with fulfilling the payments. With some pushing he finally sought help from the Ombudsman and it was decided that he had indeed been mis-sold a huge PPI amount and we were awarded this back last year. His loans have since been settled in full and Barclays even owed him money back due to interest miscalculations. We had struggled financially as a young family due to Barclays actions for 15 years and finally we thought we were free of them!

However, as it turns out, one of the split loans has not been marked as settled in his credit file, and actually says (in error) that my partner has never made a payment on it! Barclays have said they will 'look into it' but that it could take 8 weeks before we hear anything. Experian have said they will note a 'dispute' on the credit file in the meantime. Is there anything we can say or do to speed Barclays up? We really don't have much faith in them doing 'the right thing' after the way we were treated.

This could mean that the deadline for the house valuation and offer runs out before we can secure a mortgage, and we will need to reapply again, potentially costing us thousands as the house will need to be revalued at current market value.
