Help please no idea where to start trying to claim back optional payment protection

Hello Everyone,
please could anyone help me ? I have no idea where I should start even trying to claim back optional payment protection.

First let me try and explain I am with Barclays and have been for many years ( at least 20 years ) I cannot remember ever asking for optional payment protection at any point but I became ill 18 years ago and lost part of my brain function so I cannot remember some things but other things I can if I do them daily, hubby helps quite I lot. I have noticed optional payment protection a few times of late but this last one struck me down ( £7.04 ) I know I spent a bit more than I would normally but as I say I always pay in full ) but as I do my own banking which just means paying money in and paying my credit card. payment of credit card I always pay in full either when it arrives or the week after, I have only ever been late paying it once as I mis-read the due date but I explained my illness to my bank and they wavered the bank charges but after that I pay as soon as possible in full. where would I start trying to claim it back if that's even possible. hubby could help me try to claim it back if indeed I could. sorry if I have gone on a bit I just have no idea where to start. Thank you very much for your Time and Effort

  • If you generally pay off your credit card on time then there won't be very much to refund. Credit card optional payment protection (more usually called PPI) was only charged when the credit card account had a balance.

However, if you want to complain about it, you need to show that you had no need or desire for it. All you have to do is write the Bank a letter explaining why you think it should be refunded. The bank will have eight weeks to consider your concerns.

They'll send you a form most likely, just complete it with your best memory and be honest on it and see what they say, don't be tempted to use a template and make sure your answers are your own, not tailored as they might come back to bite you!

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
