Will writing - provision for bringing up children

Very sensible replies above. You should be aware that solicitors are sometimes reluctant to advice you to leave large sums of money to people other than your children. Their attitude is that the trust you set up will provide for the children.
We took the view that other posters have - that anyone taking on our kids should take them into their family with all kids treated the same. We didn't want some strange set-up where they had to sell the family home once our kids were of age or anything like that.
That meant giving the guardians money and effectively trusting them to be as fair as they could. The only provision was "on condition that they take care of the children".
We did realise that if we died a couple of days before the youngest's 18th birthday, we were effectively giving them a pile of money, but we trusted them to be fair & sensible.
We actually had a mirror arrangement with the family we chose, so we both trusted each other.0
