Scottish Power

My girlfriend and I are moving out of our flat soon (not got an exact date yet). The meters were at £0 when my girlfriend moved in, so the landlord expects them to be £0 when we move out. We have massive billing issues with Scottish Power and they've sent us a bill lately that we won't be able to pay off at once.

Can we move out of the flat and cancel our contract with Scottish Power, but set up a payment plan with them to continue paying it off until we find a new place?

  • All you need to do is inform them that you are leaving the property, they will get a final meter reading and then bill you and your girlfriend for that.

Once you get that bill you can discuss with SP what ways you can pay it.

Your landlord will start being responsible for the electricity used from the date you leave and provide SP with the final reading.
  • I'm assuming you've no issue with the overall recorded energy usage or its cost to yourself & your gf but just that its come all at once. If so, it might also, depending on what the nature of the "...massive billings issues..." you have had with SP, be worth checking this link re the Code of Practice for accurate billing & back-billing by energy suppliers

  • Hi,

yes take meter readings and let SP know, keep a note of all readings.

SP will want a forwarding contact address.

If meters were at £0 when you moved in, are the 'massive billing issues' do do with SP messing things up?

I'm a bit confused by your post, sorry.

What sort of meters to you have?
    PPMs? Or Credit meters?

Credit meters don't show your account balance.
You don't usually get a bill with a PPM, so not sure what the "billing issues" are you refer to if you do have PPMs
