Help with room design /mods ?

We have two rooms next to each other and we are undecided as to how to use them ( yes we are lucky to have them I know..). We have thought about making an opening between them, or treating them separately but despite searching the web ( houzz etc ) we need some help/inspiration. We have looked up designers in cheshire where we live but they cost a lot of money.

I know it may seem a bit miserly but we really don't have a big budget for the design/idea phase..

longshot but anyone suggest where we might find this help

really depends on how you want to use them, say as a living room and separate diner or would you like a bit more space, or maybe a more flexible approach with maybe doors between or even a whole wall that opens up if you occasionally want one big space.
How you want to use the space would be my starting point.
