Hi tiggermad, it sounds like it was meant to be, all the best with the house purchase and the new diaryMFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0

Hi newgirly and eatingtheelephant, nice to see you
Dream house has gone, we had decided to see if it was still available and if they'd had much interest but it's gone. Still haven't had any news about the property we had offered on so I'll be ringing the conveyancer next week- he seems to be good at passing stuff on to our buyers but we haven't had anything yet in relation to where we might be buying .....
I've decided that from Monday we are going to live as if we are paying out the new mortgage amount. So that means no more spending for snacks at work, take my lunch and less takeaways! We need to bring our spending down if we are going to over pay from the start. My personal challenge is going to be 4 no spend days out of 5 (in the week).
And I will ring the conveyancer.
Oh and contact another removal company as the first quote is nearly £1500 and that seems expensive ......0 -
Managed a NSD today, following a low weekly shopping bill so a good start to the week. Especially as we were driving through town at tea time, passing all the take away seal my favourite....... Instead I used up the mushrooms and bacon from last week
Our mortgage broker emailed to say he had been in touch with our conveyancer and 'enquiries are going back and forwards for both the sale and purchase'. Well, that is news to me as we have received nothing to do with our purchase from our conveyancer. In fact the only things we have received in relation to the house we are buying are our mortgage offer and homebuyers survey  So I will be phoning for an update tomorrow.
Need to sort out birthday presents for brother in law and sister in law for next week. Always struggle with ideas.
Been looking at storage places, blimey they are expensive! Got another removal company calling to give a quote and to discuss storage, hopefully one evening this week. Just need to actually get a house sorted0 -
Just thought I'd say hello on your diary. I'm hopefully moving soon, so I can sympathise with the stress. My moving quotes were around the £1500 mark too, but I'm moving 100 miles away, and they need to do it across 2 days, they are also doing packing for me. I guess it depends though how much stuff you have and if you can move in one day or not.
I think I'm finally through sorting my paperwork, my next big thing is clothes, which I keep seem to be putting off, but needs to be done soon really. I'm downsizing, so the way I think about it is the less stuff to move, the cheaper the moving bill and the better things will fit in the new place - or so I'm hoping.
Good luck with it.MFW OP's 2017 #101 £829.32/£5000

Hi pathtofreedom, always nice when people say hello
That's a bit of a distance to move! We are looking to move about a mile away, and that quote is only for the fragile and breakable packing service, we would be doing everything else. We have got a lot of stuff. I am a bit of a collector and also have stock from when I used to run my own business so there is a fair amount to move. We have started sorting, decluttering and throwing away but it all takes so long!
It is stressful, everything goes so slowly and there are so many ifs and buts. I tried phoning the conveyancer today for an update but he wasn't working so I left a message for him to call me tomorrow.
Had my spend day today, only managed to Tuesday :eek but hopefully I'll hold out for the rest of the week. I did a project for someone and he gave me two boxes of Thorntons choccies so having one or two a day should help with my sweet tooth.
We are working our way through the freezer at the moment, going to be some strange concoctions soon :lol. We had roast chicken, potatoes and veg tonight and I've thrown a few past their best veggies in the slow cooker to make soup tomorrow. Found a box of breadcrumbs in the back of the cupboard so homemade chicken nuggets next week. Mind you, using up the freezer is also helping to keep the food bill down.0 -
I'm doing the freezer and cupboards thing too at the moment. Hopefully by starting with a new place, I can stop random food shopping and get more organised in the new place which might help.MFW OP's 2017 #101 £829.32/£5000

There are extra cupboards in our new house and we like to bulk buy when things we use a lot are on offer. It'll be nice to have a pantry type area rather then things stacked under the stairs!
Managed a no spend day at work but the veggie soup using up left overs is vey bland so ended up having Chinese! Oh well.
Got another removal company coming at the weekend so hopefully a more reasonable quote although we do realise that cheapest isn't best. Plus hoping to sort out some short term storage too.0 -
Spendy couple of days, £100 for the boiler and water softener service and another £60 for a wear and tear part that needed replacing, haircut (only £5 as I use a mobile hairdresser), window cleaner (£6 as he only did the front!) and a stamp. Oh and one Chinese takeaway and one day of lunch from the cafe as my veggie 'use it up' soup was a bit of a disaster but today in our team meeting my line manager bought me a hot chocolate and cheesy scone
Got another removal company coming to quote tomorrow and we're out at the theatre tomorrow evening (Sarah Millican) so that will possibly include a meal out and then 5 hours of overtime on Sunday. Also hoping to visit the local car boot on Sunday morning to see if it's getting any busier and worth doing our own Easter Sunday.
We haven't had any post for three days now. Not sure what to do as expecting a quote for work on the house we've offered on, eBay parcel, birthday present from Amazon and a buyers enquiry from our conveyancer. Apparently three of the four were posted Monday. Hoping they'll turn up tomorrow!0 -
Had another removal company come round at the weekend. Both DH and I preferred the representative from this one, he was friendlier but still professional. Received their quote today and it is very competitively priced so we will be using them provided they can do our date, if we ever get one!
Sarah Millican was funny, I enjoyed seeing herOvertime at work was slow to start with but went quite quickly overall and we were provided with lunch so my salad was carried over
Storage is expensive! We might end up storing for less time then we were originally thinking and then working round the boxes. Not ideal but we're looking at £100 a month and we've got to move the stuff back ourselves or pay £300 for it to be redelivered.
Hopefully found a new supply of fresh eggs. A house round the corner has put out an insulated cart and a locked honesty box and had boxes of six eggs for £1.50. I don't mind paying that for fresh eggs. They were a really light blue and quite tasty (had dippy eggs and soldiers for tea) so will go back for some more tomorrow and hopefully that'll be us sorted with an egg supply0 -
Went and got some more eggs yesterday and used up some bacon and mushrooms making carbonara. Was pleased with how it turned out.
Need to really work on the nsd's. Had low spend days but need to stop buying unnecessary food at work! It is surprising how much it adds up to.
Waiting to hear back from the estate agent who we are buying the house through as I chased them about outstanding queries, still outstanding. It all just takes so long.
Hoping to start taking things to storage tomorrow! That's a step in the right direction for getting the house moved/ sorted so looking forward to it, in a funny sort of way0
