Headlamp Condensation
Hi
I have a vehicle which was hit on the nearside front wing a year ago, including a cracking the headlamp. The other party admitted full liability from the outset.
Notwithstanding the garage respraying the wing the wrong colour, for which it was returned twice to be rectified, weeks later, the replaced headlamp seal blew, leaving condensation in the lamp that was replaced; some messing around between the repairer and BMW, and ultimately it was replaced again after a couple of weeks.
The car is currently SORN, I won't be putting it back onto the Road until April, but when cleaning it, I have noticed considerably more condensation in the replaced headlamp again (as in it's noticeable, whereas the original, has none)
It's taken 8 days for them to reply to my original mail with photos, copying an article from a website about condensation within headlights, and they have suggested they will speak to the manufacturer.
2 further days on, and I have heard nothing, so I've just chased them up for a update.
Is there a way you can test headlamps? My primary concern is that 1 year or 2 years from now, when the unit is outside it's warranty period, it will be my (deep) pockets that have to be emptied to rectify it?

Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?

A headlight is a headlight - it's a complete and sealed unit, bulb excluded. The replacement light unit would be covered by the warranty from the part supplier, which the supplier - the bodyshop who fitted it - would be responsible for, and that's what they've "messed about" with BMW over, and why they're "speaking to the manufacturer" again.
No, it's not possible to easily test it - it's either sealed or it's not. It's not possible to tell if the seal might fail again. Assuming these are genuine original parts, as your post suggests, they should be no different to the ones on the car from new.0 -
It's probably just the back cover missing, save yourself some stress, get a replacement cover and fit it yourself.
When you fit it, drop a few silica gel packs in there to soak up the moisture.
As for why it's missing, I can only assume it's a bit of a swine to get at and the repairer couldn't be bothered.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
