Be VERY weary about ever taking a homepathic medicine. It won't harm you in any way, but neither will it do you any good (although you 'may' feel better due to the placebo effect).

If you don't know how a homeopathic prepartaion is made, I suggest you look it up.

A SINGLE drop of the 'active' ingredient is mixed with 1,000 drops of water. Then a SINGLE drop of 'that' mixture is mixed with 'another' 1,000 drops of water. This dilution is repeated 100's or even THOUSANDS of times.......

Can you imagine? The final preparation contains NONE of the 'active' ingredient at all! It's pure water! It's equivalent to mixing 1 drop of the ingredient with as much water as would fill the WHOLE universe!

Hard to believe? Look it up! It's absolutely true, and was featured in a Horizon programme last year.

But people don't realise it. they think a homeopathic remedy is made with some active ingredient. In actual fact it contains NOTHING but water!

Please don't just take my word for it....look it up elsewhere on the internet. Even a homepathic practioner will admit that the 'active' ingredient is diluted so much with water that it can NOT be detected in the final solution (ie water!)

'They' claim that the water retains a 'memory' of the active ingredient, although it is not physically present. Nonsense! This has been scientifically tested (and again on the horizon programme) to be false.

However, homeopathic remedies are still actively sold (companies like Boots makes miilions out of it, so they're not going to stop). And people continue to buy it believeing it does some good.

I admit, it may 'appear' to benefit some people, but only through a placebo effect - they 'believe' it will make them feel better, so they 'do' feel better. This may have some benefit to them, I do not deny. However, the homeopathic preparation itself, has NO effect.

It's only when double-blind tests are performed, when it can be proved that these preparations have no effect. ie. a number of people take preparations not knowing whether it is a claimed homepathic remedy, or water (though in actual fact, they are BOTH water - see above explanation). In these tests, an equivalent number of people taking either preparation claim some benefit.

However, if the people are 'told' they are receiving a homeopathic preparation then a greater number of them claim to feel better - it's just a placebo effect.

    Cheers,
    Don

  • I'm not sure that Zirtec - [shadow=red,left,300][/shadow]Cetirizine and Clarityn - Loratadine can be the same drug as loratadine does nothing to alleviate my symptoms and yet Cetirizine does?

I've been suffering for 30 years, I would pay GOOD money for a cure.
